Candlekeep Crusades
You are in the Candlekeep Order of the Sword, tasked with artifact retrieval and dangerous research by the Avowed — a collection of three campaigns.
About the adventure
A pallet of new texts have arrived in Candlekeep. While the Avowed Scribes pour over these texts, a map of great interest is discovered between the dusty pages of one of the tomes. It shows the location of Vraath Keep and hints at a hidden vault containing a great treasure. To further discover the secrets this map may uncover, R&D asked the eight Great Readers to gather the council. It has decided to recall the few scattered members of the Order of the Sword from their various duties throughout the land. They are to trek to the far-off land of Cormyr and locate the settlement of Drellin's Ferry, a nearby location to the apparent location of the vault, from which they should launch their inquiry and discover... what can be discovered. You are one of the members sent for.

World Builder
He's a very dedicated world builder and story shaper who I've seen spend a lot of time and care ensuring that the player experience is great, not only in the micro but also the macro. That is to say, high attention to detail moment-to-moment whether that's in describing a scene or the minutiae of combat, but also on the grand scale of main story arcs and each character's personal motivations and individual stories. The game he runs is typically quite chill, but he's willing to scale up the 'level' to meet the group. Campaigns / Stories usually start from a book adventure, anything from 5e to 2e, but branch out into the greater world as characters grow. Multiple campaigns end up with a cool interconnectedness in a shared world. Great guy, funny guy, I've been playing his campaigns for 4 years and I don't intend to stop.
I've been with this DM since the beginning of his adventure, and man has it been fun! The stories that have been told have been terrifying, heroically inspiring, and downright ridiculous! The tension that he creates makes me so scared for my character at times, but does it ever make me immersed! I'd recommend this DM for anyone who wants good world-building and some pretty epic battles.
ShinyHobo has been the Game Master for my group running a continuous campaign for over 3 years. He's even found a way to work in side stories that we play with an alternate cast of characters that all influence the same world. He puts the players first and makes sure we all have a fun and exciting time. I never feel railroaded or lost on what to do. We tend to lean more on the tactical side of play than on role-playing, but we have ample opportunities to do either. There is a good balance between feeling overpowered in the situations where it makes sense, and being challenged to avoid failure ending with grave consequences.
Having played several campaigns with ShinyHobo, I can say that he is an exceptionally skilled dungeon master. His attention to detail in world building creates a beautifully immersive play experience. He is fantastic at bringing his NPCs to life in a believable and engaging way, giving much thought to each character’s thoughts and motivations. He encourages and cultivates creativity among the party, allowing everyone to fully express themselves. I highly recommend choosing him and I look forward to our future sessions!
Character creation
Creating your character
Session 0 character creation in FoundaryVTT; level 5, 80 point buy. Up to any one rare and two uncommon items.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord account and preferably a copy of Tabletop Simulator. I will provide you with a link to my Foundary server and a password for logging in.
What ShinyHobo brings to the table
I like to run my games with tactical combat, rugged survivalism, funny voices, complex story integration, and some minor homebrew. I run the game in Tabletop Simulator over Discord and keep track of character sheets and combat in Foundry.
Homebrew rules
- Drinking a potion as a bonus action - Flanking uses a reverse cover system, at the DM's discretion. For example, a medium creature on either side of another medium creature may get a +2 to their attack role, and completely surrounding said creature may grant a +5 - Modified Critical Hits - Cleave - Ignored coin weight - Height grants advantage to ranged attacks

How ShinyHobo creates a safe table
Communication is fundamentally the most important aspect of any relationship between any group of people. We will have session 0 to go over session dynamics and player creation. I like to keep on top of how everyone is feeling about the game, so breaks, debriefing, etc. will be common; feel free to message me your stars and wishes. The X, N, and O cards can be sent in chat, publicly or privately, as well as verbally. I have an open-door policy.
