About me

The name's Seth, but you can call me CTP! My goal is to provide the best gaming experience for you that I possibly can, and I have high standards! I've got over 20 years of TTRPG experience; at least 50% of that time was as a DM/GM running games for my friends. I consider myself an exceptional GM. I balance improv, acting, fun voices and accents, and thorough system knowledge with a sense of fairness, excitement, narrative development, and humor. I run pre-written material as well as creating my own adventures and campaigns. I also know what it's like from the players' POV. https://www.youtube.com/@CTP_GNG ^ check out my silly gaming YouTube channel if you want to hear some voices and SUCH; the Legend of Legaia playlist has a lot of voice acting nonsense I tell you what boy howdy.

I've played in countless (IRL) games run by CTP over the past couple of decades, and I look forward to every session. I remember to this day the deep, gravelly voice of a blue dragon swooping out of the skies of Sharn nearly twenty years ago demanding of us "Get on!" and realizing that CTP had made our characters the center of what mattered in Eberron even before we'd found our characters' voices and habits. I can still picture the swift motion of CTP showing us how the drow cultists kicked over the tavern tables for cover and leveled crossbows at those of us who had not succumbed to their foul poisons. I hold in my heart the peaceful rightness of Grignak's complete unmaking by an elder brain in the final battle for all of reality -- it was truly his time, and there was no coming back. I shouldn't have been surprised by the FBI sting operation to catch my nosferatu for the serial killings he had committed (...before becoming a vampire), and yet I walked right into that trap because my pride demanded it -- and what a fall ensued. CTP will let the villain win, if that's what the dice (and your hubris) demand, but win or lose, the PCs own the spotlight. It's their story, one way or another. CTP is a GM for the ages. At our first session after the passing of Gary Gygax, CTP rolled for 1d20 seconds of silence. Fate decreed it should be a natural 20, of course. And so we honored the moment...before plotting the downfall of the great Giant King Gygax, pulling together every spell and novel trick available to us.

CTP is an engaging DM who is intuitive and empathetic. He will push you to the edge of what you think is possible and encourage creativity and out of the box thinking. He has a strong grasp of the rules and will use them to guide your adventure wherever you want to take it. I highly recommend giving CTP a chance to DM for you, you won't be disappointed!

I am SOMEWHAT biased as an irl friend, but having played games with this man I can, in fact, recommend him. A delight to be around, knows his stuff, and I've never heard him raise his voice in anger under...any circumstances, really.

One of the best DM’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing under. Seriously, this guy is one of the greatest. In person table top, or play by post; this man has you covered through spoken or written word. He will work with your character ideas and plan around them. Just know that you can always bet he knows exactly how the game is meant to be played. Not the type of DM for those players looking to cheese the system or lawyer the rules. Be a good player to him and he will treat you right in return. More DM’s should be light my guy here!

I've played in more than one game run by CTP, both in session and in play by post. He's fastidious, creative, and technically sound without crushing the spirit and spontaneity that makes tabletop RPG shine as a hobby. His descriptions are immersive without becoming bogged down in irrelevant noise and his adventure pacing is excellent. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

CTP is great! Really charming and funny. He can do voices! I had a ton of fun in his Legend of the Five Rings. Honestly an all-time great roleplaying experience.

Character creation
Creating your character

Follow the basic rules of character creation, all available for free from Massif Press! You will start at LL 0 with access to all GMS weapons, chassis, and systems. After each mission, you will earn licenses giving you options to new and exciting mechs.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Be sure you have access to Discord and a microphone, and a stable internet connection, ideally on a PC or laptop. We will use Foundry as our virtual tabletop (VTT) which has full integration with the LANCER rules set. You don't need an account to use Foundry, I will provide a link to the server. You should make an account on COMP/CON, the free LANCER web-app. It will help you with character and mech creation, and has integration with Foundry.

What CockroachTeaParty brings to the table

This game will use an advanced VTT (Foundry) which includes character sheets and integration with the free COMP/CON web app for LANCER. This game features intense tactical combat, and fully engages with the customizable and surprisingly deep rules for LANCER. There's infinite variety for builds and cool combos! I will be bringing my system knowledge and rules mastery, a helpful attitude, and a predilection for fun voices. The missions and scenarios will be created custom by yours truly, and your pilots will get to direct the course of the campaign!

Homebrew rules

I am banning the Prospector pilot talent from the Dustgrave supplement; it's just a bit too goofy for my tastes and we don't need mechs digging giant holes all over the place.

How CockroachTeaParty creates a safe table

Everyone will get a session 0 pre-game interview to cover any topics you are uncomfortable with, but I plan on keeping this game focused on giant robot action. Player safety, comfort, and inclusion will be handled on Discord to make sure everyone is in good shape.
