In Souls of the Second Flame, you’ll start by playing as a modern-day person—yourself, or someone like you. Life feels ordinary… until something ancient begins to stir. You start having strange dreams of wings and fire. A voice—calm, powerful, and wise—calls to you across worlds. Its name is Aurith, the Awakener. It tells you a truth buried deep inside: You were once a dragon. And it’s time to return. This is a fantasy adventure set in the world of Exandria, filled with magic, ruins, mysteries, and powerful choices. You and your friends are being called back to a land in need of heroes. Your journey begins in a place called Wildemount, a continent full of strange lands, shifting powers, and ancient secrets. As you play, you’ll slowly unlock more about your character, the dragon you once were, and the world that remembers your flame. This game uses Daggerheart, a brand new roleplaying game that’s perfect for storytelling and growing into your character. You don’t need to know all the rules before you start—you’ll learn them as part of the story. Your GM (that’s me!) is learning too, and we’ll explore this world together. You’ll have a guide: Aurith, a mythical being that speaks to each character and helps you learn how to play as you go. They’ll be your mentor, your mirror, and your connection to the dragon soul within. Whether you’re completely new to roleplaying games or just trying something different, this adventure is built to grow with you. You don’t need to be an expert to become something legendary. This is a story about awakening. About remembering who you were… And choosing who you’ll become.

Creating your character

Character creation will happen during Session Zero, which will serve both as a narrative prologue and a mechanical walkthrough. Players should arrive ready to play as modern day human (or themselves), with only a basic idea of their modern-day persona. We’ll build the rest together in the session. Think about what kind of abilities you have or would like to have in life and decribe how you would use them and why noting your ideas if needed to discuss in session 0. When you transform in game there will be another character creation section. System & Materials We’ll be using the core Daggerheart rules by Darrington Press. No external sourcebooks are required beyond what’s provided in: The official Daggerheart downloads Custom HB rules for the Isekai section and the dragon soul abilities

How Should You Prepare? Before our first session, here are a few simple steps to help you get set up and ready to begin your journey: 1. Join the Discord Server This will be our main hub for communication, scheduling, sharing art or memes, and asking questions. Get Familiar with Daggerheart You don’t need to read everything in advance, but it’s helpful to take a quick look: Official Downloads: daggerheart.com/downloads Start with the Character Sheet and the Play Guide PDF We’ll learn the rest together during Session Zero and as we play! 3. Think About Your “Earth Self” Your character will start as someone from modern-day Earth. You can play: A version of yourself A fictional version of a modern person Someone inspired by your dreams, memories, or soul Just bring a simple idea: Who are they? What do they long for? What might they have forgotten? 4. Be Ready for Awakening You don’t need to create your whole character in advance—we’ll do that together in Session Zero. But you can journal or reflect on: Strange dreams your character has had Moments they felt out of place in the modern world What kind of dragon they might have been Optional: I’ll share an “Awakening Reflection Prompt” sheet to guide you if you’d like! 5. No Tools? No Problem. We’ll mostly play in Discord, using voice/video. No need for Roll20 or other platforms right now. Homebrew rules

Homebrew Rules This game uses the core Daggerheart rules, with only a few custom additions to support the unique isekai and dragon awakening themes of the campaign. 1. Draconic Soul Bond Each player character has a hidden draconic soul—the spirit of an ancient dragon, reborn in mortal form. This soul bond: Unlocks over time, through visions, roleplay, and milestone moments. Provides custom boons, breath powers, or role-based traits as your character grows. Is represented in-game by your mythic guide, Aurith the Awakener, who may offer cryptic insight, teach rules, or grant metaphysical guidance as needed. This replaces traditional class progression paths with story-based awakenings that reflect your character’s emotional and spiritual growth. 2. The Rule of Memory Once per session, a player may say: “Something in me remembers…” You may then ask the GM (or Aurith) for a helpful memory, hidden skill, or intuitive feeling related to the situation. This may reveal a lost ability, draconic echo, or guidance—offering narrative support or advantage on a roll. 3. Aurith as Co-DM Aurith, the Awakener, exists within the narrative and as a mechanical helper. Players can ask Aurith questions about rules, world lore, or inner transformation during play. This offers a gentle way for both players and the GM to learn Daggerheart together, while keeping immersion intact. 4. Narrative Over Numerical While Daggerheart is already rules-light, this campaign emphasizes emotional moments, transformation, and character growth over tactical precision. We will always prioritize: Creative solutions Mythic storytelling And the Rule of Cool—if it’s awesome and fits the story, we’ll find a way to make it happen.
