About the adventure

It is the 41st Millennium. The galaxy burns, and humanity is beset by alien horrors and the creeping rot of Chaos. Yet the Emperor’s light endures—and must be carried into the void. The Imperium, vast and crumbling, survives not by mercy but by faith, fire, and unyielding will. Even so, its borders bleed, and darkness festers in the stars beyond. One such wound is the Jericho Reach. Once a proud bastion of Imperial might, the Reach was severed from the Imperium by warp storms and the slow decay of neglect. For millennia, its worlds languished in isolation, prey to the alien, the heretic, and the unclean. Now, through the gaping wound of the Jericho-Maw Warp Gate, the Imperium has returned. The Achilus Crusade drives ever forward, seeking to reclaim what was lost, known as the Orpheus, Acheros, and Canis Salients, battle rages against the xenos and the heretic alike. But the Reach does not yield easily. In the Orpheus Salient, early gains collapsed as Hive Fleet Dagon emerged devouring worlds. Acheros drives into the Reach’s heart, where Chaos warbands, cults, and Necron tombs wage a brutal war of attrition. In the Canis Salient, Imperial forces endure a grinding siege against expanding Tau and encroaching Tyranids. Across the Reach, the Imperium is besieged by Tyranids, Chaos and countless xenos. In response, the Inquisition deploys its deadliest weapon: the Deathwatch—elite Astartes sent to succeed where entire armies have failed. The Long Vigil is a grim, atmospheric campaign blending deadly combat with deep roleplay and psychological tension. As elite Deathwatch Space Marines, players confront xenos horrors and heresy across the Jericho Reach. The tone is horror-thriller, where fear is ever constant, and shadows hide more than just monsters. Missions are lethal, investigative, and morally complex, testing loyalty, resolve, and identity beneath the armor. This is not just war—it is the Long Vigil, and few emerge unscathed. 🛡️ Roleplay-Driven: Deep character exploration, moral dilemmas, and inter-Space Marine dynamics take center stage. Duty, faith, and sacrifice are constant themes. 👁️ Horror-Thriller Atmosphere: Expect dread-filled missions, unknown horrors, and the psychological strain of confronting the inhuman. Fear, paranoia, and secrecy run deep. ⚔️ Deadly Combat: Every battle is brutal, fast, and lethal—where even Astartes can fall. Tactical awareness and teamwork are essential. 🕯️ Grimdark Tone: Survival is not guaranteed. Hope is a weapon. And even victory comes at a terrible cost. 📜 Narrative Focus: Missions unfold like war stories—investigative, cinematic, and laced with tension. 🌌 Xenos and Heresy: Face the full spectrum of alien threats and Chaos corruption across a crumbling forgotten worlds. The Long Vigil is a narrative‑driven adaptation of the Deathwatch RPG, converted for complete compatibility with the Dark Heresy 2nd Edition system. In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.

About me

Forged in '79. Rolling the bones since 1992! 📣 Greetings and salutations, traveler! Have a seat and listen to my tale... 📣 I am Dimitris M. (Jim for short) and I hail from Greece. Most people know me by Lord Stendor, due to my booming voice which I try to keep detained. I have been a player and a game master for more than 3 decades. I have wandered in the endless paths, roads and starlanes of storytelling and met so many interesting people while having dragon hoards of fun! From classic Dungeons and Dragons to the World of Darkness to the Warhammer Universe, I have sailed through the pages of lore and adventures! I like to try all sorts of weird and fun new TTRPGs. I currently run campaigns in the various Warhammer universe games and Dungeons and Dragons. I am a details freak and I love to create new stories, situations and problems for my players. I am a fair player and even fairer game master, some may even call me "too soft". I am a strong believer that a GM is equal parts entertainer, judge and storyteller. It is the job of a GM to create a fun, fair and interesting environment for their players so everybody can enjoy themselves! The tables I run are expected to, first and foremost, respect the GM's judgement, but I am always open to listen to an argument first and judge second. I try to focus on narration, setting the mood and immersing the player in the environment. I also enjoy setting riddles and traps, so be careful. Currently, I run campaigns that focus on the Warhammer 40k universe (Dark Heresy 2e, Only War, Black Crusade etc.) and D&D (Greyhawk 5e), I soon plan to release a campaign in Warhammer Fantasy 4e and Imperium Maledictum here on Startplaying. I am always planning new stuff and I prefer to design my own material or to keep the essence of an adventure and redesign it to suit the needs of our current group. Come and join me traveler to the endless voyage within the pages of intrigue, fun and heroic deeds!

Character creation

Creating your character

This game is a conversion of Deathwatch to Dark Heresy 2e. The ruleset used for the game is DH2e. It involves a lot of homebrewing from my part and the character creation process will be done on a free one-on-one session 0 with the player. I will help you out shape the character you like. I encourage interesting characters with deep backgrounds, as I like to weave my stories around the group.

The current party

Xavier, Salamanders Librarian Castus, Black Templars Assault Marine Gadreel, Dark Angels Devastator Urvar, Space Wolf Tactical Cassdium, Imperial Fist Tactical Sabrael, Dark Angel Ravenwing Veteran

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord account (free), Forge account (free). No programs need to be downloaded. Send me a pm to give you access to my discord server and forge links (for Foundry).

What Lord Stendor brings to the table

I provide a private Forge based Foundry Server. A discord server for voice. I embrace Rule of Cool as much as I can and I like players being creative, that being said I do like to keep things within the realm of logic (unless magic is involved :D). I love RP heavy stories and surround my campaigns around the player choices and their wants and needs (as characters) but combat when initiated is designed to be deadly and players should exercise caution. I do try to do voices and love ambient music.

Homebrew rules

While this is a Dark Heresy 2e ruleset the game is Deathwatch, i had to homebrew a lot of stuff to make it work. Character creation will not be Homeworld-Background-Role. The essence behind this iteration of Deathwatch derives from Black Crusade so in character creation the character will have a template frame of Space Marine: with a set number of aptitudes common to all, talents and skills. The second step is Speciality (Tactical, Assault, etc.): This gives an additional set of Aptitudes, plus a Talent and some skills. Chapter is the third choice and does not involve aptitude gain, only stat bonuses, flavor, RP elements (via Curse of the Primarch and Demeanor) and mechanical bonuses (Talents, skills and a special ability similar to Solo Mode). I wanted the chapter not to be a huge part of the mechanical and be more there for RP flavor. Chapter Specific specialties (i.e. Wolf Priest, Interrogator Chaplain, Sanquinary Priest, etc) are included on the basic char creation. Deathwatch Specific Specialties like Deathwatch Epistolary or Watch Captain are considered Elite Advances and are handled as such (see Inquisitor or Untouchable in Dark Heresy 2e Core Book). There are many more details that will be explained and are posted on the Discord Server.

Safety

How Lord Stendor creates a safe table

In a world of so much war and death, some graphical images may appear. I try to keep things that I feel will disturb my players on the background behind a veil, that being said all things are on the player group tolerance and sense of immersion.
