About the adventure
You wake cold on a metal table within a mortuary. Congratulations, you've died! Suffering from a massive spout of amnesia you have no idea who you were or how you ended up here. All you'll soon find out is that you're in Sigil, the center of everything. Who you were is now up to you to figure out, but figuring out one's identity isn't easy when you don't know anything yourself. This game will focus heavily on plot, roleplay, and combat. Designed to be a challenging, yet fun and rewarding adventure you will be put to the test in search of answers as to who you truly are. This game is meant for people with at least some experience in D&D, but we'll help each other out along the way.

About me
Hey, I'm Cliff. I've been game-mastering since September of 2019. I've mostly run long-term campaigns with a few one-shots, mostly for D&D5e/Homebrewed games.

Creating your character
You should create your characters prior to the session, but if you join in last minute, or in the middle of a campaign I'll make sure you have time to set up. Your character may be created on D&DBeyond, or on our Foundry table. You will need to make a character and TWO variations of that character ahead of time. There will be more details on that below... Races/Species - Character races/species for this game are limited to officially published content from Wizards of the Coast for D&D 5e (both 2014, and 2024 editions are accepted). Classes - You are free to use any official classes for this campaign including UA. Homebrew content may be allowed with prior approval, but to keep things manageable, this will be fairly limited. Stats - To keep things balanced we will be using the Point Buy system when determining stats. Level - This game starts at level 3. Additional Info - This game starts with each character suffering from amnesia. With no memory of who they are or how they got here, you'll quickly find there's more to it than meets the eye. If you're the type of person who likes creating backstories for your characters you should note that it will not be relevant to the story early on due to the aforementioned amnesia, however, there will be a point later in the game where your backstories will come up in a limited capacity. I mentioned earlier that character creation will entail a character and two variations on them. What I mean by that is each of the three characters will be unique in their own ways. Possibly different races, different ages, different classes, you name it. This could be your chance to try out several different classes if you'd like! During the character creation process I will leave you with these three questions which are meant to connect all three characters in some way... 1. What was the greatest decision or turning point in your character's life? How might a different choice alter the outcome that happened? 2. What is one thing your character wishes they could change about themselves? What is their "flaw", and what would make them perfect? 3. What is your character's signature possession or trait? What makes you certain that your character would retain this no matter what happens in their life? Further details about character creation will be shared inside our Discord for the campaign.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To participate in this campaign you will need... - You should have Chrome/Firefox downloaded for FoundryVTT. (PC versions are recommended.) - A Discord account for communications. - A good microphone as the games are run over voice. - You should have a basic understanding of the rules to D&D, but you do not need to know EVERYTHING. That is why the rest of us are present. - A Can-Do attitude with a desire to engage in roleplay. - Three characters at level three prepared. - (Optional) A D&D Beyond Account for access to content that I'll share and character creation.
What Cliffton brings to the table
- The game will be hosted on a FoundryVTT server. It will host maps from the campaign, occasional music and ambiance, and immersion-setting backgrounds where I can find some. It will also host character sheets, and anything else a tabletop should host. - I also have the Planescapes books on D&D Beyond (and a few others that will be available to players) via a campaign link. - A Discord server where all of this information can be obtained at any time, and provide the ability to talk with me, and other players during and outside of game sessions. What you as the player can expect from me directly are as follows: A confidently well-organized DM who will try his best to provide a safe and fun space for roleplay by attempting voices for unique NPCs (I'm not that great at it yet, but I'm trying!) who will also encourage you to bring out the characters you wish to explore. This campaign setting I intend to follow by the book "Turn of a Fortune's Wheel" as well as the other Planescapes setting-related books which will mostly follow a somewhat non-linear story path with some opportunities to let each of your characters individually shine. I lean on roleplay and storytelling, but this game is designed to hold some challenging combat encounters set up to tell a narrative story which you will inevitably come across throughout. I do allow for rule of cool in my games so long as it makes sense for your character and the particular setting at hand without destroying the balance of the game. IF you feel I missed an important piece of information here that would help you decide if I am the right DM for you do not hesitate to send me a message with your questions. I will gladly provide more context for you.
Homebrew rules
- Rule of Cool - When using a potion, using it as an action provides you with the max health, but using it as a bonus action still requires the roll. - Nat1s in combat lead to an adverse effect for you and/or your companions such as: your fire ball targeting another player instead of the enemy, or dropping your weapon.

How Cliffton creates a safe table
I have a forum you will be asked to fill out prior to the start of the campaign to let me know where your limits lie. A "session zero" will be handled through text chat prior to, and during the game to make sure the game remains fun, lines aren't crossed, and problems are dealt with in a timely manner. During the game at any time you may message me directly, or simply shout "RED" (for shut it down), "YELLOW" (for be cautious, fade to black, etc...), and "GREEN" (for its okay right now). You may also simply message me these colors in emojis or text format. You will never be asked to explain yourself if you do not wish to, nor will I ever call you out if you do so privately. I will offer a follow-up with you to make sure you're okay if ever these are called, and we will address any issues when they arise.
