About the adventure

The village is quiet now. The crops have soured, the forest paths twist strangely, and something watches from the trees. Under the light of the Crooked Moon, strange omens and older things stir in the Hollow. This is a dark folk-horror campaign where the dead return, fate is tangled, and every promise has a cost. You’ll begin at level 1, but the deeper you go, the more you’ll uncover—curses that cling, bargains that bind, and choices that change you. This game is perfect for players who love story-driven horror with creeping dread, rural superstition, and complex choices. We’ll journey through haunted woods, plague-choked towns, and forgotten shrines, using vivid storytelling, collaborative roleplay, and layered mysteries to bring the world to life. Roleplay is encouraged, safety is prioritized, and new players are always welcome. The Crooked Moon rises—will you follow its pull, or try to escape its shadow?

About me

Hey! I’m Mike — a laid-back UK-based DM (GMT) who loves wild ideas, emotional moments, and just the right amount of chaos. Like a lot of folks, I got into D&D during the pandemic by binging actual play shows — and I’ve been hooked ever since. Now I run games where storytelling leads the way, the dice add drama, and the players shape everything that happens next. I run story-first one-shots and mini-campaigns packed with big character moments, meaningful choices, and plenty of space for nonsense (the good kind). My style is all about collaboration — you bring the weird ideas, I’ll try and help make them epic. My tables are beginner-friendly, low-pressure, and perfect for players who care more about having fun than memorizing rules. Whether you’re into goofy antics, heartfelt arcs, or both, I’ve got you covered. New to D&D? Casual player who just wants a good time? You’re welcome at my table. Bring your backstory, your boldest ideas, and let’s build something unforgettable together.

Character creation

Creating your character

We’ll be starting at level 1 using the 5E rules, with content from The Crooked Moon campaign setting. New players are very welcome—I'll walk you through everything, whether you're making a custom character or picking from a pre-generated sheet. You’ll have three easy options: 1. Choose a Pre-Generated Character – Perfect if you want to jump in quickly. I’ll provide a few story-rich options designed to fit the world. 2. Create a Custom Character with Help – I’ll guide you step-by-step using D&D Beyond. You can use official 5E options, plus setting-specific content like: * Harvestborn (haunted scarecrow-like constructs) * Plagueborn (resilient rat-folk survivors) * Folk horror subclasses themed around curses, hexes, and rituals 3. Join a Session Zero – We can meet beforehand to build characters together, talk backstories, and connect your character to the setting. Want to be a cursed noble, a broken warlock, a soft-spoken Plagueborn alchemist, or a wandering witch-hunter? This world is built for that kind of storytelling—and I’ll help you bring it to life.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Getting started is easy! You only need two things: A free D&D Beyond account – This is where we’ll create and manage your character. Discord – We’ll use voice chat to play. You don’t need to be on camera unless you want to! That’s it! No dice, no books, no experience needed. I’ll provide everything else and guide you through step-by-step. Just bring your curiosity and a stable internet connection.

What Mike brings to the table

Here’s what you can expect: Guided character support – I’ll help you build a character you love or give you a ready-made one so you can jump in and play. Clear rules and pacing – I use the 2024 Player’s Handbook and explain everything as we go. You won’t be left guessing what your character can do. Low pressure roleplay – I never pressure players to "perform". You can roleplay at your own comfort level. Tactical but accessible combat – I run fast-paced, turn-based encounters with maps and guidance. Rule of Cool > Rules as Written – I’ll follow the core rules, but I’m always happy to bend them for clever ideas, cinematic moments, or laughs. Most importantly, I provide a welcoming, judgment-free space where mistakes are part of the fun and learning is celebrated. Bring your curiosity and I’ll handle the rest!

Safety

How Mike creates a safe table

Your comfort, safety, and enjoyment are my top priorities. Whether you're brand new to D&D or returning after a break, I aim to make this a welcoming, respectful space for everyone. Here’s how I support that: Session Zero – We’ll start with a relaxed Session Zero to go over character creation, play styles, expectations, and any content boundaries. This is your space to speak up and shape the game to your comfort level. Lines & Veils Form – I’ll send a short, optional Lines and Veils checklist you can fill out privately to flag any topics you’d prefer to avoid or fade to black. Aftercare Check-ins – After intense or emotional scenes, I’ll check in (publicly or privately) to make sure everyone feels okay and supported. Respect and Kindness – I expect all players to be kind, inclusive, and respectful. Bigotry, harassment, or disruptive behavior is never tolerated. We’re here to tell a fun, collaborative story together—and that only works when everyone feels safe being part of it.
