About the adventure

The Yawning Portal Tavern in the Free City of Greyhawk is known across the continent for providing good paying jobs to trustworthy adventurers. The owner, a human named Durnan, has friends everywhere. These friends provide Durnan with opportunities for adventurers to make fortunes while fighting back evil across the Flanaess. No corner of the continent is out of reach from The Yawning Portal Tavern and its namesake- a teleportation doorway. Travel to the customer is instantaneous and yawn inducing. Durnan likes to purchase a relic or magic item from each group upon their return. These are displayed in the portal room. Providing an item for this collection opens up a world of possibilities for adventurers. They too will have friends everywhere. _______________________________________________________ This is a great module for players that enjoy long dungeon delves broken up by a couple character driven sessions. In game time jumps will take place between adventures. This will give time for characters to build bastions and utilize the resources acquired through the job. Conflicts will naturally arise as the individual influence of each character spreads.

About me

Welcome all! My name is Mae (they/them) and I love creating memorable tabletop experiences. D&D was love at first sight for me. I watched a single episode of a stream and by the end of the week I had a DMG. Another week later and I was attacking my friends' characters with goblins as they tried to take some trade goods to Phandalin. That adventure and many more since then have helped me to learn about myself, support myself and follow my dreams. It brings me great joy to inspire creativity in others as our journeys cross paths above the board. Many of the aspects I now know about myself were learned through gaming. The freedom my initial DM provided allowed me to explore my identity. I embraced my queerness, gained confidence in my storytelling skills, came to understand the importance of safe spaces in fostering inner growth, and discovered that I love teamwork so long as proper boundaries are communicated. It is my goal to create a safe table so players can enjoy the very freedom that helped me to grow so much.

Character creation

Creating your character

šŸŽ Character creation is preferred to be on DND Beyond, but other means are also acceptable. šŸŽ² The party can choose between an improved standard array (17, 16, 15, 13, 11, and 9) or to roll for shared stat array. To do this, each player rolls one set of stats then the party chooses among the rolled arrays, picking one that all in the party will use. āš” Characters will start at Level 1 with three common items.

The current party

A decadent Sorcerer and Bard/Paladin have entered the lair of a young Black Dragon.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

šŸŽ™ A microphone is required. I do not use a webcam myself and do not expect any players to do so, although it is not discouraged either. šŸŽ² Digital dice will be used, either through D&D Beyond or Roll20.

What Mae brings to the table

šŸ“š I will bring all of the current compendiums as well as maps and sound effects through Syrinscape.

Homebrew rules

āš” Flanking grants advantage āš” Healing potions can be used as an action to gain the full possible HP āš” Spiritual Weapons can be carried by the caster to prevent outrunning the Spiritual Weapon. The weapon must be within 5 feet of the caster to be moved this way.

Safety

How Mae creates a safe table

šŸŽ² I strive to empower players to take any action within their capability. Players drive the action in this story. I consider the events of the published book as an outline but am open to tossing out the outline if that is what makes most sense for the story the characters craft. šŸŽ² I have a lines and veils document open to players. This is also discussed during session zero. Player comfort is very important to me and my DMs are always open to players who need help or need to be heard.
