Spelljammer Academy! A Mini-Campaign
The Spelljammer Academy shows promising young recruits the life that awaits them out beyond the stars of Faerun, but things lurk in the dark between..
About the adventure
Welcome to Spelljammer Academy! Promising recruits are trained here under the tutelage of experienced spelljammers, who prepare fledgling spacefarers for the perils of Wildspace and the Astral Sea. Cadets learn the finer points of ship-to-ship combat, space exploration, and (in some cases) clandestine operations. The newest batch of recruits has just arrived after a long, arduous sea voyage, but there’s still much to do! Although it’s business as usual at Spelljammer Academy, the new cadets soon learn that strange things are afoot.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I am a storyteller at my core. The collaborative and versatile format of TTRPG’s (Table Top Role-Playing Games for the uninitiated), happens to be one of my favorite ways to tell my stories; because in this way they’re not solely mine but they are in large part formed around the players I have at my table; virtual or otherwise. My love of Dungeons and Dragons began in middle school when my dad ran my first game for me and my younger brother. He had grown up in the 80’s and played the first modules and systems released by TSR at that time. When he set up that game for my brother and I, it fascinated me and sparked my imagination in a way that no other medium of entertainment had; or, I suspect will. Not too long afterward the 5th Edition of Dungeons and Dragons was released and I bought all of the initial books. I roped anyone who would let me into a myriad of games; extended family members, younger siblings and friends alike. As time went by, I discovered shows like Critical Role and realized that D&D was becoming something more than an underground game enjoyed and talked about in hushed tones. It was becoming a cultural phenomenon again. This spurred me to hone my talents and develop a specific style as a DM. I ran games throughout high school and college and introduced many new players to the game. The spark that I encountered my first time playing, is the very same spark I see in the eyes of new players when they suddenly realize, ‘Wait! I can do THAT?!’. Fanning that spark into a flame for another person is by far my favorite thing about this method of storytelling. In more recent years I have done my best to learn more about other games and systems for a broader scope of stories and experiences that I can give to my players. I am always looking to become more accomplished and hone my craft. I suppose the long and short of it is: I am comfortable with brand new and seasoned players alike, and it is of utmost importance to me that you, the player, come away from whatever story we’re telling together feeling excited and like you collaborated with others. I would be honored to DM or GM for you and see what adventures await us! Onward and Upward!

This was a fun, light, and uncomplicated little ditty in a Bavarian setting. Sawyer was very good at describing our environment and getting our characters to interact w it and each other. I had a good time learning a bit more about a new PC of mine. It was especially nice to get a little more practice using a different race/class. Whether you're a bored pro or a total beginner, you can have a good time under Sawyer's direction. Would recommend giving his games a try!
Really enjoyed the game! Sawyer spent time having our characters interact before we were introduced to the adventure hook and tailored the game to incorporate different details of our backgrounds and character choices. This was a "Theatre of the Mind" game, and we only used Discord, so it was very accessible. During the two combats, he did a great job of keeping track of where we all were, mentally, and handled a 5-player group really well. I would happily play in one of Sawyer's games again.
Sawyer was able to add me super late because another GM had cancelled. It being my first Theater of the Mind, I was a bit hesitant; however, once I was brought into the world, Sawyer and my fellow adventurers quickly put me at ease. The story flowed well and the combat scenario really allowed us to use tactics in creative ways. I was surprised just how well and smooth the whole experience was. Awesome!
Character creation
Creating your character
You will need to create a 1st level character for this Spelljammer campaign. You do not have to use the lineages from the Spelljammer core set but a lot of tie in's to the setting with them. Pretty much any class or lineage option goes. If you'd like a premade character I can provide you with one. At session 0 we'll go over party makeup and lock in everyone's choices.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You should have access to Discord and D&D Beyond, or one of the premade sheets. You'll also need to sign up for the free version of the Alchemy RPG platform.
What Sawyer brings to the table
I will bring the Alchemy RPG VTT, as well as the dynamic Dungeon Alchemist Software for original battle-maps.

How Sawyer creates a safe table
The tags detail things that MIGHT come up in a game of 5e Spelljammer, NOT things that WILL come up. It is very important to me as game master that all of my players feel safe an comfortable at the table so they can focus on the game and the freedom to role play. Lines and veils will be discussed extensively beforehand, and integrated into the game experience before play.
