About the adventure

Enter the thrilling world of Fritz Leiber’s Nehwon, home to the legendary city of Lankhmar and the infamous heroes Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser! Prepare yourself to battle members of the city’s nefarious Thieves’ Guild in fog-shrouded alleys, to barter for cursed curios in the Plaza of Dark Delights, and to seek the wisdom of Ningauble of the Seven Eyes and Sheelba of the Eyeless Face! The classic sword-and-sorcery experience is one of wild fun set in a metropolis: Roof-top chases, Thieves Guild machinations, see-through ghouls, fell sorcery, awakened elder gods, as much skullduggery and swashbuckling as a gaming group can handle with the DCC. Expect a good, old–fashioned city campaign of heists and hijinks. "Campaign you say? I thought this was a one-shot? It's not a typo. It is a campaign. Show up every week or show up when you can. The city will remain alive and vibrant with new missions each week. The players will be working together. If you can't make a session, no worries. The story continues. Or play it as a one shot. Or as a bi-weekly. It's up to you. I can guarantee you will want to play every week as your colleagues get better, richer and more powerful while you relax... Each weekly adventure will be designed to handle the crew that takes the job. Beginners are always welcome. This is a great campaign to learn and play the rogues, the duelists, bards, monks and barbarians in a world designed for them to flourish. I can't wait to play with you!

About me

I run story-rich, player-driven adventures. You bring the characters—I’ll bring the world—we will make it ours together. My GM style is relaxed, story-rich, and collaborative. Whether you want kick-down-the-door dungeon crawls, exploration, westmarches, horror, or mysteries in the dark, I’ll tailor the game to your players. One-shots are brisk and punchy, delivering a complete adventure in a single session. Campaigns are dynamic and sandbox-style, shaped by your preferences, backstories, and play style. I’ve run many games and campaigns across a variety of systems: • D&D • Dungeon Crawl Classics • Mutant Crawl Classics • Call of Cthulhu • Traveller, • Top Secret • Shadowdark • Mörk, Cy_Borg, Pirate Borg My shelves are stacked with classics and modern gems alike—I’ve got you covered. If not, I can run it. I’ve run games for everything from bachelor parties to birthday surprises, corporate team-building events to reunions. My tables are welcoming, flexible, and focused on making sure everyone has fun. The best games are forged in shared challenges and the camaraderie that comes with them. Let’s tell some amazing stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

You do not need to know anything about character creation, how the game works, or anything about the game. We will cover all of this together. Characters will start out at level 1 and be made on D&D Beyond and can also be made with me on Discord (scheduled live session or via message) using D&DBeyond. Pre-made characters are available.

The current party

You are outside of Lord Suttar’s home on Glulditch Court. You’ve heard rumors of a treasure concealed beneath the floorboards of the building and have come to investigate. Glulditch Court is a lonely cul-de-sac situated between the Rich Men’s Quarter and the Crafts Quarter, a dead-end street overlooked by most Lankhmarts. It seems a street forgotten by the city at large. One three-story, narrow stone building has clearly been abandoned. The wooden boards over its shuttered windows and the rusty chain and lock securing the front door are weathered with age. Dead ornamental bushes flank the short steps leading up to the entrance portico and the lawn is strewn with broken tiles fallen from the building’s steep roof. A single narrow alleyway presumably leads to the rear garden of the empty home. Strangely, the third floor lacks any windows, presenting a solid stone façade to the court below. Looking about you, you see Glulditch Court is empty and the sounds of traffic on nearby Silver Street is muted. You feel you can approach the home undetected. "No Small Crimes in Lankhmar" is an adventure set in the city of Lankhmar from Fritz Leiber's fantasy stories, where even seemingly minor acts of theft or deception can lead to dangerous and unpredictable consequences, often involving the city's criminal underworld and powerful entities; it is typically considered a "heist" style adventure where players explore a seemingly abandoned building, only to uncover hidden dangers and complex secrets within its walls, often involving magical traps and powerful foes.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The Theater of the Mind (audio portion of the adventure) will occur on Discord supplemented by images and battle maps as needed. You will need an account on Discord. Access to the dedicated server will be open prior to the game. Owlbear Rodeo may be used. No subscription is necessary. Some players also enjoy the background music and effects of Syrinscape. A free account is now required for you to log into the site. Once you have the free account, a pregame link will provide you the immersive sounds. While fun, the music and sounds are not required. Characters will be made or provided on D&DBeyond. Pre-made characters are always available. Players will make characters during session zero; or, we can make one prior to the game session. A pre-made character can be provided.

What Mark brings to the table

I am bringing decades of games experience, a robust community, in depth characterisation and the flexibility to adapt to player styles and choices. I will provide free access to a starter set of rules and guide you through character creation on D&DBeyond. I will supplement the narrative with images and maps on the Discord Server. Access to Battle maps and tokens will be open on Owlbear Rodeo. You will also have the option of enjoying thematic music and sound effects while you play.

Homebrew rules

We will craft the house rules we want to play in the first session...or play by the rules as written. You decide! Lankhmar games are fun with luck, fleeting luck, sanity and modified critical hits...but we can play they way you want!

SAFETY TOOLS ・During Session 0 we will discuss Lines and Veils. ・A 10 minute break will occur roughly halfway through the session. Additional breaks are always available on request. ・Further details of all tool implementations are provided within the discord server. Feel free to ask any questions for clarification.
