About me

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain." Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner Great quote and always one of my goals was to finish life with a fantastic set of stories, memories and most importantly comrades...live life fast, hard and create beautiful memories...RPGs are all that forming the bonds of comradeship in the crucible of shared adversity and victory! I started young as a player in 1975 first with Tunnels & Trolls; and, then with Dungeons & Dragons which was a supplemental booklet to the medieval warfare rules Chainmail that my club was painting figures for and playing...yup, back in the time of Dinosaurs before the asteroid hit. Very early on I became the dungeon master and do not play enough but usually am selected for the roll of DM. Throughout, I've played and run games nearly continuously intermittent breaks to live a crazy, diverse life spanning some incredible adventures, on and off the tabletop... My gaming pedigree is equally expansive includings boardgaming, miniature painting (professionally), miniature gaming and RPGs. Diverse in RPG experience I've played many: Tunnels & Trolls (1st, 3rd & 4th); Monsters, Monsters; Dungeons and Dragons (Original, Basic, AD&D, 3.5, 4th & 5th editions); Gamma World (1st & 7th editions); Traveller (1st & 2nd editions; Boothill; Gangbusters; Chivalry & Sorcery; Space Opera; Aftermath; Top Secret (1st, 2nd & S.I editions); and, Call of Cthulu. Semi-retired from action man status and finding myself not yet ready to become a second-hand lion, I started traveling while intermittently working for a gaming company as a private contractor when I was approached by that same company to run a game for their company training event. Since then, I have been working as a paid DM for a variety of types of games: young players; birthday parties and fun events; corporate training events; old grognards "returning to the fold;" new players of varying ages and careers; even a game or two designed to teach life skills with organized lesson goals for individual players; and, most miraculously, my old gaming friends from a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. In all cases, I'd like to believe that we have had fun in our collaborative story telling while forming life long friendships. My style of play is relaxed and aimed at fun. If I'm running a game, I tend to run a dynamic sandbox game with multiple threads of adventure and story progressing simultaneous to the adventurers' saga. In D&D, I currently run games in either Toril, Mystara, Aereth, Oerth, Dave Arneson's Blackmoor, the Judges Guild world of the Citystate, Lost Lands; Midgard; Newhon, historical Earth and my own world. The goal is for for each player to experience a fun and exciting time. I prefer to run iron dice as some of the best campaign stories have been spawned by the fall of the dice causing improvisation and adaption. I also run one-shot adventures. I prefer to play in a dangerous unbalanced world with iron dice. I feel the difficulty and the vagaries of luck intertwined with the risk of life and death makes the sweet rewards that much sweeter. I do offer iron dice campaigns. Most of my recurring groups have migrated to a sand box world tinged with the extreme danger of the Original-D&D/AD&D world...if your group wants to try that, let's do it. I can also offer custom worlds and adventures. It is my expressed hope and desire that we can build those same bonds of friendship and comradery in a shared gaming experience.

GM style

Friendly and flexible play tailored to the players designed to produce fun and epic tales. Iron dice or not? I will run games across the spectrum of Original D&D to the the balanced worlds of 5E. My adventures are always in a sandbox world with multiple dynamic stories progressing around the players. Follow the thread or head off on another, I adapt the game and campaign to the party. My goals are to keep the adventure dynamic and interesting with active participation by all of the party members. I prefer Discord for game communications. I also can use other methods such as Zoom, etcetera. Owlbear Rodeo is my preferred Virtual Tabletop. l also regularly run sessions in AboveVTT and "theater of the mind" sessions on Discord with voice and images. Paper player sheets and real dice or DnDBeyond virtual sheets are used equally depending on the group. My adventures can be strictly scripted out-of-the box as written. Most of my groups prefer me to use the written ones as a basis for the campaign with modification and inclusion of other adventure streams. I always adapt the adventure to keep the pacing and the story memorable. The amount of roleplaying is tailored to each player including the voices which I'm sure all sound alike but hopefully become unique and discrete to the players. Two of my regular groups describe my adventures as all the fun of 5E with the terror of AD&D. My focus is party fun in the midst of the dangerous world thus creating an epic adventure. Intrigued? Join, jump into the story and discover your adventure...into the unknown!
