About me

My style of play is relaxed and fun. The campaigns are dynamic sandbox adventures with multiple threads of story. One-shots are as written but zoom along to a rousing conclusion. Custom campaigns are tailored to the players' preferences/play styles and the characters that are created. The goal is for for each player to experience a fun and exciting time in the way they like to play. I prefer to use destiny dice and iron dice as some of the best campaign stories have been spawned by the fall of the dice. The destiny dice let the fates decide making our game worlds both dangerous and exciting. Player agency is premier. The difficulty and the vagaries of luck intertwined with the risk to life and limb delivers sweet rewards that are so much more sweet. Fantasy RPGs: I've sat on both sides of the GM Screen for quite a few RPGs: Tunnels & Trolls (1st, 3rd & 4th); Monsters, Monsters; Dungeons and Dragons (Original, Basic, AD&D, 3.5, 4th & 5th editions); Gamma World (1st & 7th editions); Traveller (1st & 2nd editions); Boothill; Gangbusters; Chivalry & Sorcery; Bushido; Pathfinder (1st Ed.); Aftermath; Top Secret (1st, 2nd & S.I editions); Deathbringer, Level Up 5e, Metamorphosis Alpha, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Hardcore Mode D&D, Mutant Crawl Classics, Deadlands, Warhammer RPG (1st), Four Against the Dark, Rogue Trader, and Call of Cthulu. I'm also familiar with Weird West, Pendragon, Shadowdark, Outgunned, Cyberpunk Red and Savage Worlds and ready to run games if requested. Would love to learn Tales of the Valiant... Campaigns occur in Toril, Mystara, Aereth, Oerth, Dave Arneson's Blackmoor, Aihrde, the Judges Guild world of the Citystate, Stennard, Lost Lands; Midgard; Newhon, Hyperborea, historical Earth and my own world. I've got games developing for other new campaigns...just ask. I can also offer custom worlds and adventures. I have most of the adventures set in Mystara and have run most. I also possess most of the AD&D modules. Both D&D and AD&D modules convert easily to 5e and I have done so for many (Castle Ravenloft, Mordentshire and the B1-10 Borderlands through Night's Dark Terrors series being the most recent). I have all of the WoTC 5e adeventures and have run most. Dungeon Crawl Classics are a favorite to run either using theeir rules or converting to 5e. I own all of their adventures inclusing their third party stuff, the 5E series and the OAR series. Mutant Crawl Classics and Weird Frontiers are in my library with games of MCC having been done. Hire me for WF...I'd love to run one. Kobold Press/Frog God Game/EN World adventures...yup, I've got them too and I've run many of them. And there's a bunch of other Third Party stuff like Lore Smyth, GinnyDi, OSE, Exalted Funeral, Cubicle7, Lazy DM, Judges Guild, Mongoose, Troll Lord, Nord Games, etcetera that I've got too...and have either run or prepared them for 5E if their not already written for it... At this point, you realize I have a substantial library of adventures and I've either read it or run it so...I can run it for you. It is my expressed hope and desire that we can build those same bonds of friendship and comradery in a shared gaming experience. Join my welcoming and inclusive community. Play an old favorite or a new favorite. Let's play! ____ Still here? A bit about me you ask? Ok...I'll steal a quote: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain." Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner One of my goals was to live life developing a fantastic set of stories, memories and most importantly comrades...live life fast, hard and create beautiful fantastic stories...RPGs are all that forming those same bonds of comradeship in the crucible of shared adversity and victory! I started very young as a player of Tunnels & Trolls. Next was Dungeons & Dragons, a supplemental booklet to the medieval warfare rules (Chainmail) that my club was playing...yup, back in the time of Dinosaurs before the asteroid hit. Very early on I became the dungeon master. Throughout, I've played and run games nearly continuously intermittent breaks to live a crazy, diverse life spanning some incredible adventures, on and off the tabletop... Semi-retired from action man status and finding myself not yet ready to become a second-hand lion, I started traveling and intermittently working for a gaming company. I was approached by that same company to run a game for a company training event. Since then, I have been working as a paid GM for a variety of types of games: young players; birthday parties, events; training events; old grognards "returning to the fold;" new players; playtests; even a game or two designed to teach life skills with organized lesson goals for each individual players; and, most miraculously, my old gaming friends from a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I'm looking forward to gaming with you. Best, Mark

GM Style

Friendly and flexible play tailored to the players designed to produce fun and epic tales. Iron dice aka Destiny Dice or not? It's up to you. My adventures are always in a sandbox world with multiple dynamic stories progressing around the players. Free will and player agency are critical. Follow the thread or head off on another, I will adapt the game and campaign to your party while keeping the adventure dynamic, interesting and with active participation by everyone. Discord is preferred. A mic is a must. Camera is optional but encouraged. Owlbear Rodeo is my preferred Virtual Tabletop. l also regularly run sessions on AboveVTT and "theater of the mind" both in person and online. Hire me to run an adventures out-of-the box as written. Or hire me to run a free wheeling sandbox adventure. Most of my groups prefer me to use the written ones as a basis for the campaign with modification and inclusion of other adventure streams. I will always adapt the adventure to your group keeping the pacing and story memorable. The amount of roleplaying is tailored to each player. I will do voices. Two of my regular groups describe my adventures as all the fun of D&D 5E with the terror of original D&D... Intrigued? Join, jump into a story and discover your adventure...into the unknown!
