About the adventure
Black smoke clouds your vision. It gets thicker and thicker until your vision is completely shrouded. Panic sets in. Your breathing quickens. Then you feel it. The heavy weight of death. Your limbs are no longer your own. The final breathe escapes your lungs. A memory of someone you've wronged flashes before your eyes. Your soul drifts away from your corpse and falls into nothingness... Your eyes shoot open and before you is a hellscape you could never imagine. One thing terrifies you more than the war of Avernus or flames of Phlegethos: the chain wrapped around your leg. Sharp spikes dig into you reminding you of the innocent life you took. Perhaps you can find redemption. Or more damnation. This campaign based off the amazing Chains of Asmodeus module will be played every week! This campaign is geared towards more seasoned players as you will go from level 11-20. I have extensive experience helping players learn to play 5e, so don't feel like you can't enjoy one of the greatest role playing games ever made. I will warn brand new players, however, that it will be a lot of information to grasp at first. Session 0 is always free!

About me
I started running games in 2016 cause I thought Adventure League was too loud and crowded at my local game shop. My main games are DnD 5e and Cypher, though I have experience with Alien RPG, Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars D6, and more! I love comedy and fantasy games but thoroughly enjoy horror and sci-fi. My goal as a GM is to make sure you're having fun and encourage character building/growth. I'm not a RAW kind of GM. While I do defer to the rules on certain things, my overall goal is to keep balance and fun integral to the game. I also give inspiration if you make me laugh out loud while you're in character.

Creating your character
Characters will start at level 11. Players should have ideas for characters by session 0 but are not required to have character sheets ready. Characters should follow the Adventurer's League character creation rules, linked below. https://assets.ctfassets.net/swt2dsco9mfe/5HsTtt0nV2KIyAGYl4bIi9/6edfd53c11ff71bd647488fe730022ae/D_D_Adventurers_League_Player-s_Guide_v13.0.pdf
We're having a second session 0 as one player couldn't make it to the first. While this is geared towards intermediate to advanced players, beginners can join in, though there will be a lot of info up front. Fair warning, but you're more than welcome to the table. **Current Party** Champion Fighter
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a Quest Portal,DnD Beyond (optional), and Discord accounts and have a basic understanding of how to play 5e (ie, rolling dice, basic addition, etc). Players will only need a microphone, and we'll be using Discord for voice chat. If players want to roll only in DnD Beyond, that is more than ok as long as their characters are in the DnD Beyond campaign for dice roll recordings.
What GMSyd brings to the table
I love using fun voices for characters. Not all of my voices are great, but I have a couple here and there that are really good. I also love helping people learn to play RPGs. Not just 5e, but Cypher, Alien RPG, and more. I do use ambient music, but keep it pretty low in the background so it isn't distracting for some players.
Homebrew rules
Death Saves - players chose between open, obscured, and hidden. Open means everyone knows where you stand. Obscured means only you and the GM know. Hidden means only the GM knows. Intelligence: Additional Proficiency - For each positive INT ability score modifier bonus, you gain proficiency in a new skill, tool, language, type of armor, or type of weapon. If you have a negative modifier, this will not take any proficiencies away. Skills with Different Abilities - the GM might as for a check using an unusual combination of abilities and skills, or you might ask if you can apply a proficiency to a different check. HP Rolls on lvl up - If you roll less than the average, take the average for the class in question. Wild Magic (optional) - For all classes, a Nat 1 on a spell attack roll will result in a surge of wild magic (roll on the d10,000). Resource Tracking - Encumbrance tracking will be light. If something seems suspicious or very unlikely, the GM will intervene. Healing Potions and Actions - Drinking a healing potion can either be an action (gaining the max healing possible for the potion) or a bonus action (PC must roll for the healing). Critical Success/Fail on Attack Rolls - Rolling a nat 20 on an attack roll will allow the player to choose between double damage die OR rolling on the critical hit table. Rolling a nat 1 on a melee or ranged weapon attack will have the player roll on the corresponding critical fail table. Critical fail rolls apply to enemies as well.

How GMSyd creates a safe table
General Rules 1) Respect and listen to your fellow players. 2) Respect and listen to the DM. 3) Please do not distract other players. 4) Making the DM laugh so hard they can’t breathe while you’re in character gives you inspiration. 5) Take notes. 6) Please save meta-gaming, rule debates, memes, etc. until designated break times. 7) Wild Magic can occur at the DMs discretion. 8) Remember actions have consequences. 9) Keep noise at a reasonable level. Respect our neighbors and all of our ears. 10) No explicit actions will be detailed in-game. This includes sex, torture, etc. In accordance with StartPlaying.games rules and rightly so, no non-consensual sexual actions and no pedophilia will be allowed in this game. 11) No politics. 12) The Rule of Cool applies to the DM as well as players. We will be doing a Session 0 where I will gather everyone's lines and veils. Those are submitted anonymously if you so choose. I also have an Open Door policy. You can step away for any reason, and the only thing we'll ask is if you're ok.
