About the adventure
🪔 The Lamplight Vigil A gothic mystery D&D 5E campaign told through immersive Play-by-Post storytelling. Greyhold is a town on the edge of the world—and on the edge of something darker still. Surrounded by the shifting mists of the Mournfen, its sun sets too early, its lanterns burn too low, and every winter it holds a sacred tradition: the Lamplight Vigil. For thirty nights, every household lights a lantern against the dark. It has always been enough... until now. You arrive just before the Vigil begins, drawn by fate, coin, or nightmares you can’t quite forget. The streets are quiet. The townsfolk are watchful. Whispers follow you in the fog. As the days pass, the light begins to falter, and so do the people. Something ancient is remembering. Something buried is waking. And your lantern may be the only thing standing between Greyhold and what waits in the hollow places. This is a game for players who crave narrative depth, slow-burn horror, and immersive character-driven storytelling. We’ll explore broken traditions, flickering hope, and the cost of memory through evocative prose, solo visions, and haunting mysteries. Combat is rare but dangerous. Choices are personal. And sometimes, the scariest thing you’ll face is your own reflection. Do you keep the light burning… or find out what happens when it dies?

Meet the Game Master
About me
Greetings, adventurers and fellow dice-rollers 🎲, I’m Kaiba, your friendly neighborhood Dungeon Master, also known as Zein (Zane). Whether you call me "The Wizard of Whimsy" or "Master of Mayhem," my mission is to guide you through epic quests and magical realms. As the storyteller, rule-bender, and chief architect of chaos at our gaming table, I bring passion and creativity to every session. When I’m not conjuring up devious twists and turns, you'll find me immersed in rulebooks, sipping on a potent brew (coffee, Red Bull, or something a bit stronger), and plotting our next adventure. My ultimate goal? To make every session a rollercoaster of excitement, laughter, and unforgettable moments that leave you saying, "Oh my gods, what just happened?!" So, gather your dice, unleash your imagination, and prepare for a journey where anything is possible and creativity knows no bounds. Together, we’ll embark on epic adventures and let the good times and crits roll! P.S. I believe in mutual respect and an open mind. While I won't ask for your pronouns or hold your hand when a spider attacks, I promise your character's identity and experience will be paramount. Prepare for danger, excitement, and a world where your character’s story takes center stage.

Creating your character
🛠️ Character Creation Guide Welcome to the game! Before joining the adventure, here’s everything you need to know to build your character correctly. 📚 Allowed Content When creating your character on D&D Beyond, please use the following settings: ✅ Use: • 2024 Core Rules • Expanded Rules (like Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar's Guide to Everything) • Optional Class Features • Homebrew Content (Approval Needed) ❌ Disable: • Partnered Content (Critical Role, Rick & Morty, etc.) • Legacy Content (including 2014 Core Rules) ⬆️ Starting Level All new characters start at Level 3. ⚔️ Character Stats Use the Standard Array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 Assign these numbers to your ability scores however you like. 🎒 Starting Equipment • Choose Standard Starting Equipment provided by your class and background. • You may not roll for gold or buy custom items at character creation unless specified by the DM. • You begin with a lantern that lasts 6 in-game hours per fill. • Keep a backup light source—trust us 📈 Leveling Up We use Milestone Advancement—you’ll level up at key points in the story, not by tracking XP. 🪝Pick a Hook (or invent your own) Tie your backstory to Greyhold or the Vigil using one of these optional narrative seeds: • The Disgraced Flamekeeper: You once guarded the Vigil’s light… until you failed. • The Monster Hunter: You came for rumors—things seen only in mirrors or fog. • The Folklore Scholar: You obsess over lost gods and dying rituals. • The Local Returned: You grew up here. But things weren’t like this before. • The Dreamer: You’ve seen the Vigil—again and again—in your sleep. 🔥 Required Backstory Elements Include the following in your character intro: • Why are you in Greyhold now? • What is your character’s relationship with the Vigil? • One superstition you’ve heard about the Vigil (real or invented). Example Superstitions “Never light a Vigil lantern with a match—only flame passed from another.” “Don’t look at your reflection after midnight. It remembers what you forgot.” “Each lantern lit is a name remembered. Let one go out, and the dead forget you.” (Optional) A memory, vision, or nightmare involving lanterns or the dark.
