About me

I have been GMing and playing in this great hobby now for 40 years and as my picture shows, I am still loving it :) Life is a rich tapestry and I try to fit into it as much as I can. I take this attitude into the games that I play and run, and so I always seem to be running something. I like to think that my life and gaming experiences provide benefits to the games that I run and therefore to the experiences that the players have. I am always looking to improve and welcome any feedback; if you don't grow, you decay. I hope we can grow together.

Ego, is an amazing DM he is a terrific story teller and paints an amazing picture of what’s going on in the campaign. Also Ego’s combat is very tactical he understands the creatures how they should operate which is an amazing addition to the rich story telling. He has a large knowledge base of DND and other TTPRG and his experience is obvious

I'm currently immersed in my longest-running campaign with Ego, a Dungeons of Drakkenheim adventure that keeps getting better with every session! Ego has a remarkable talent for weaving our collective story into a truly engaging narrative. Combat encounters are consistently tough yet fair, offering a genuine challenge while remaining perfectly balanced. His mastery of Foundry VTT is a huge asset; the seamless technical execution ensures I'm never pulled out of the immersive experience. As someone for whom this is my first significant dive into D&D 5e, Ego made the learning curve feel effortless. I'm thoroughly enjoying the rich story and dynamic scenes, and I'm genuinely excited to see where this adventure takes us. He maintains an excellent pace, ensuring progress without ever rushing anyone. I wholeheartedly recommend Ego to any player, regardless of their experience level

Have been playing multiple sessions with Egonaught. Narration : 5/5 - in Remote RPG I find this important, just as with audio books, very clear & concise, mastery of English language (native). Inclusive : 5/5 - Took the time to explain campaign in session 0 as well as make sure to check if anyone had severe triggers to commit them from the campaign Creativity: 5/5 - It's not a DM out to get us, good challenges but allows & fosters creativity so we all have a great time Fun voices : 4/5 - Good balance and not exaggerated, just enough to feel there is a differences in characters & npc's you're talking too Visual Materials & Audio : 5/5 - Uses Foundry VTT, always sets the mood with music (I love music Ego !!!) and has great visuals. We sometimes have a small glitch which is instantly resolved (kudos as these things often paralyze a session of max 3h) Besides that I really like the fact he asks us at the end of the session what we would like to see more, what we didn't like so much. Therefore, every session feels slightly improved due to feedback that was given and taken into account. If I had more time on my hands I would join more campaigns with Ego :-), hopefully in the future.

Great DM, I would say most experienced dm that I meet. Helpful yet deadly, we are in no pullbacks campaign and I love it. He knows the foundry, mods, maps all is amazing. Would recommend to anyone.

I’ve had a brilliant time - Ego strikes a really nice balance of pace and excitement, with plenty of opportunity for personal character growth and adventure. I really look forward to the sessions and really recommend Ego’s campaigns. I have also noticed some modules he uses with foundry vtt that I think improve the experience. Great all round experience and a generous DM

Character creation
Creating your character

On our Discord server you will be given access to a dedicated game channel that will highlight the process, any rule clarifications to be aware of, and links to source material I would recommend you try some of prior to play commencing. I will provide you with access to the new 2024 PHB rules for you to create your Heroes with (note that we will by default be using 2024 Rules and options available within the Player Guide for this campaign). Our Heroes will be starting at Level 3, so try to think about the past that led them here, so places they have been, people they know, any great deeds they might have done. You can then bring any questions you may have to our Session 0 and we can address them openly in the Group. If there are further background refinements that you wish to cover, we can do so via the Discord server.

The current party

This campaign will be using the new D&D 5e 2024 Rules and these will be made available to you as part of you playing this game. Your Hero can be built using D&D Beyond (free for players). Upon completion of the campaign, Heroes will be a minimum level of 13th. Links to setting information and the D&D Beyond account for the game can be found via our Discord server, which will be shared with you during the signing up process.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Players should ✅ source a microphone external to the speakers of their PC or Mac (I can recommend one if you need to source a reasonably priced one); ✅ have a PC or Mac that is capable of joining the Foundry VTT reliably; ✅ sign-up for a D&D Beyond account if you do not have one (it is free to do so); ✅ sign-up for a Discord account if you do not have one (it is free to do so); ✅ agree with the Group on who will take notes (I always advise it with any Campaign, even if they're just a set of key points); ✅ remember that this is a game; ✅ be clear with their expectations without being discourteous; ✅ see this as an opportunity to learn from one another as well as to teach.

What Egonaught brings to the table

🌟 I bring with me 40 years of experience as a GM. 🌟 The games I run are generally immersive and story rich, with both film noir and horror influences. 🌟 Combats are less frequent but often brutal affairs. NPCs will usually therefore assume you will role-play with them first (most don't want to die either). 🌟 Those NPCs of significance will have some limited agency to respond to the Party's actions; this isn't a static environment, your choices affect the game-world. 🌟 I am not a voice actor AND I will do as many voices as I can, particularly to NPCs of significance to help you gain a sense of them. 🌟 Access to the Foundry VTT on which you will find all the rules you need as a player, along with all of the maps/tokens/audio required to run this Campaign; 🌟 Access to the new 2024 D&D 5e Rules via D&D Beyond; 🌟 A Discord server that will be used audio and text discussion. Heroes are forged in the white heat of adversity. In the beginning, you might be nobodies. As the Campaign goes on, you slowly rise to meet the challenge that the Gods themselves have placed before you. I will cheer you on, but silently as the Gods are known to be jealous masters :)

Homebrew rules

The community area on our discord server contains a range of articles on the new D&D 5.5 rules and how we will make rulings on them. This is an open area where all players can discuss and contribute in turn. We do allow players to transfer Heroic Inspiration from their characters to another player character as we believe that this encourages both their usage and better team play. We continue to invest in supplementing D&D with some of the excellent contributions made by the wider D&D creators, and a good example is the use of Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting in all of our D&D campaigns. Suggestions of creators we do not use today will be welcomed and agreement is likely to be based upon their availability on D&D Beyond and/or Foundry. We do not support custom homebrew for individual players outside of reskinning of existing material.

Safety
How Egonaught creates a safe table

A Session 0 will be run before the Campaign starts and will last the length of a normal session. In the first part, we will have an open discussion on the different levels of player experience and on the themes explored by the published material. Where we can identify areas that might prove difficult for participants and how the other safety tools will be used to mitigate these and help player enjoyment in general. In the second part, we will as a group discuss your player characters and though I will help where required, this is an opportunity for players to collaborate and get to know each other little before we begin play. Players joining after Session 0 will be sent a Content checklist to complete.
