About Egonaught
I have been GMing and playing in this great hobby now for 40 years and as my picture shows, I am still loving it :) Life is a rich tapestry and I try to fit into it as much as I can. I take this attitude into the games that I play and run, and so I always seem to be running something. I like to think that my life and gaming experiences provide benefits to the games that I run and therefore to the experiences that the players have. I am always looking to improve and welcome any feedback; if you don't grow, you decay. I hope we can grow together.

My favorite shows/movies are
As a kid, I grew up with a diet of cinema. By the age of 18, I had seen 90% of films made between 1930s and 1980. Some of my first loves were - The Godfather - It's a Wonderful Life - Casablanca - Rear Window - Lawrence of Arabia - Ben Hur - The 39 Steps - 12 Angry Men - Some Like It Hot
People are always surprised when I tell them
...that I took up martial arts at the ripe old age of 40, and I do a combination of Hung Gar, Capoeira and full-contact Kick Boxing 😅
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Creative - I support player agency within the playing group, rewarding proactive play and adapting to player-led ideas. Storyteller - I always try to set the mood with distinct NPCs, visceral worlds, good visuals and dramatic music. Teacher - I guide players with using rules and technology.
How Egonaught runs games
Heroes provide Hope in a World that has None. As a GM, the games I run are generally immersive and story rich, with both film noir and horror influences. I tend to run gritty games with adult themes so I look to cover this in Session Zero to discuss with the player group. Alongside these I will run lighter games that introduce the hobby to new players. I support players with integrating their characters into game, empowering them to feel confident about the level of agency their characters will have within the boundaries the group has signed up to. My focus tends to be upon the story threads the player characters find and where they then take them to. I always encourage roleplaying and work with players to make them as comfortable as I can with this. Combats are less frequent and often brutal affairs. NPCs will usually assume you will role-play with them first as most don't want to die either. Those NPCs of significance will have some limited agency to respond to the Party's actions; my games can be dynamic environments as a consequence. I am not a voice actor AND I will do as many voices as I can, particularly to NPCs of significance to help you gain a sense of them. Heroes are forged in the white heat of adversity. In the beginning, you might be nobodies or nobility. As the Campaign goes on, you slowly rise to meet the challenge that the Gods themselves have placed before you. I will cheer you on, but silently as the Gods are known to be jealous masters :) I do all these things because I have found that they both create a better experience for the playing group and lead to games that last. I have run the following game systems, with each campaign lasting for between 1-6 years - D&D, AD&D, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, Ars Magica, Savage Worlds, HERO System, and Rolemaster. If that sounds like a good fit for the type of games that you like, or something you would like to try out, then feel free to message me and I will let you know about any games I am intending to run or that might have a space.
