About the adventure

A curse that defies the power of the gods themselves has fallen over the world of Toril. Instead of facing the judgment of Kelemvor, the souls of the dead are being siphoned away as fuel for a dark and terrible purpose. Divine magic can no longer return the dead to life, and those who had been raised from the dead before the curse was cast now find themselves slowly but surely wasting away. You have been hired by one such doomed soul who has discovered the source of the death curse: a powerful necromantic engine called the Soulmonger. Your mission is to destroy this vile artifact and bring an end to the death curse, but such a feat is easier said than done. The Soulmonger lies deep within the jungles of Chult, and even should you survive the grueling quest to find it, the dungeon that houses it will provide an even more deadly challenge. This adventure starts with a hex crawl and leads into a dungeon crawl, and is the perfect challenge for experienced players who want to level grind their way through a treacherous journey. The stakes couldn't be higher, and the path couldn't be more fraught with peril. And remember: so long as the Soulmonger stands, the path to the grave is a one-way trip.

About me

Well met, adventurers! I'm a DM with over seven years of experience running games for 5e and have had the good fortune of finishing multiple campaigns, many of which lasted for over a year. Whether you're a veteran or a novice, a min-maxer or a casual player, a serious role player or a player who just wants to do an old-fashioned dungeon crawl; odds are I've already hosted a game that's exactly the sort of thing you're looking for! I like to start off each campaign (and even one shots) with a session zero in order to ensure a smooth start to an experience where everyone at the table can get the most out of the adventure. I'm familiar with most of the 5e modules published by WotC, but am no stranger to creating campaigns from scratch. In either case, I strive to incorporate player characters into the plot to make players feel integral to the story. Everyone should have their time in the spotlight! I could talk about myself more, but the best way to get to know me is to join the Discord we'll be using for our games. That way I can personally answer any questions you might have about the games I run and how I run them. Join our Discord by requesting a link from me, and I'll send you the invitation as soon as I can!

Character creation

Creating your character

- Characters created in FREE session zero on Discord. - Player characters begin at level 3, but could start at level 1 if the players want a greater challenge. - Optional "speed run" play style where the characters are level 17, but are being affected by the death curse. - Roll for stats or point buy if you don't like the stats you rolled. - EXP level up system. - Roll for HP or take the average. - Characters should be around level 11 for the final boss fight.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Join the Discord: https://discord.gg/BnqFAE6axE - Microphone/headset required - Roll20 account OR D&D Beyond Account required (Roll20 preferred) - I can help you build your characters and level up, but I expect you to know your own abilities once you have them.

What Robert brings to the table

- Role20 Plus level subscription with content sharing enabled. - D&D Beyond Master Tier subscription with content sharing enabled. - A FREE session zero where we can coordinate character creation. - Roll20 provides a map of Chult that you get to fill out as you explore the jungle. - I've completed this adventure before, after running it for nearly a year. - I encourage using existing NPCs as part of your backstory, or creating backstory NPCs to bring into the adventure so your character has stakes and a sense of belonging in the world. - I support bending rules for the Rule of Cool as far as possible without breaking them. As long as what you're attempting is remotely possible and doesn't explicitly contradict a rule, you are free to attempt it.

Safety

How Robert creates a safe table

- There's a channel in the Discord where we can list our lines and veils. - X, N, and O's can be sent over Discord or Roll20. - We'll have a FREE session zero to discuss how lines and veils will be implemented. - No element of the story is worth causing players unwanted emotional distress. Don't ever be afraid to speak up at any time and put our safety tools to use!
