Hot Drop into Lancer! Lancer Intro oneshot

Lancer | One-Shot

About the adventure

//Potential Pilot Located //Initiating Onboarding process Ever want to pilot a mech? No, I don't just mean any mech...YOUR mech? What am I asking, of course you would! I mean who wouldn't?! Lancer is a game where you can make almost any mech you can think of, imagine a theme or concept, pick licenses to acquire the correct parts, figure out how to jam them into the small frame you chose and then slap enough pant and tape on the thing to hide your fantastic paintjob! Oh and it has a fun combat system on the side to even try it out!.........only to realize the idea wasn't so great. All jokes aside, Lancer is a Mecha Tactics game. Like any system it'll have it's quirks and issues but this one just does something so right that others seems to fall flat on. Building your mech, this process is just fun in and of itself. It's also supported by a fantastic community companion app called Compcon which is a thing IRL and IN GAME!!! Combat in Lancer is simple but versatile, turns can be fast or slow depending on your playstyle. Want more run and gun action? More slow and intentional actions? Wanna just screw around and see what happens? Lancer supports a wide variety of options and styles based on what parts you chose to outfit your mech with. Though this is limited by a License system which means you unlock parts in chunks and need to select a predefined frame to mount everything on, nothing really will stop you from making something different or counter to what the frame might normally do. This oneshot is just to get enough of a taste to see if you like Lancer enough to dig deeper and go into a short campaign or something longer ~~though I highly recommend the Solstice Rain and Winter Scar modules for a fantastic adventure~~ Any questions? Just shoot me a msg and I'll gladly talk bout lancer...as long as I'm not busy prepping for another game or figuring out how to compensate for something crazy my players did

Recruiting notes

Want to try a Mecha TTRPG or Lancer specifically? Wanna shoot things with a giant gun? Swing a sword bigger than your mech? Invoke eldritch knowledge to tear space and time apart to torture your enemies? Fly faster than anyone else while leaving holograms? Become the group Mule hauling them around and saving their sorry excuse for a mech? Lancer is a Tactics game with mechs wrapped in a layer of Role playing fun, and yes you can remove the wrapper and just play it like a war game but I find the wrapper adds a nice taste and texture to this burrito of a game...yes I might be kinda hungry

Zye Folkvar ran an excellent one-shot that introduced us to the Lancer TTRPG. As a first-time Lancer player, I really appreciated how thoroughly he explained both the gameplay and the setting. One of the highlights was how he walked us through building our mechs before the session he made what could have been a complex process feel clear, approachable, and even fun. His guidance helped us understand how different systems and frames worked, and how to create builds that matched our playstyles. During the game, Zye was patient, organized, and enthusiastic. He kept the pacing just right balancing teaching moments with exciting tactical encounters. The mission itself was engaging and showcased Lancer's depth really well. If you're new to Lancer or looking for a great GM who knows how to make the system click, I highly recommend playing with Zye.

one of the few people on here running a non D&D game, (and doing it spectacularly) if you haven't tried lancer you should.

How to prepare

Things to do for the game > Bring yourself > Headset/Mic for VC chat > Idea of what you'd like your mech to look like, and be willing to change it based on what pre-generated character you choose

What I provide

The game will take place in Foundry VTT using tokens from Retrograde Minis or any suitable art assets the players would like if they are provided at the session. For this oneshot the idea will be to play as close to Rules as Written as we can while also explaining some house rules as they come up, really just expect it to be a small learning game with some time to chat with everyone and see if Lancer is something you'd wanna play more.

Gameplay details

The Oneshot will have some narrative buildup and of course involve fighting but death isn't a requirement in this game due to the nature of Mech on mech/vehicle combat. Players will be motivated to stop a roving band of marauders who have done many horrible things but the exact details don't need to be discussed for the situation to work.
