Save the Forgotten Realms from the Queen of Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Welcome to Faerun. More specifically, the western shore known as the Sword Coast. A thin strip of civilization stretches down this coast, where widely spaced cities are arranged like beads on a string. A combination of roads and wagon tracks loosely connect the cities that stretch from Luskan in the north to Calimport in the south, passing through Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur’s Gate, and other great ports along the way. The world is in a constant state of change and Faerun is no exception. The Cult of the Dragon has been active in Faerun for centuries, focusing on making undead dragons to fulfill a prophecy for most of that time… but things are changing… You are a weary traveler on your way to the town of Greenest. Trade caravans pass through, bringing gold to the merchants and crafts folk of the area and there is relative peace… but things are changing… Whatever you are in search of, or running from, it is not likely it will be found here as little come to Greenest in search of anything of value… but things are changing… The Queen of Dragons - Tiamat - is using her Cult of the Dragon to return to the mortal realm from the Nine Hells. But you don't know that yet. For now, all you know is that your hope of respite in Greenest will have to wait, as the town is ablaze with a dragon flying overhead and raiders attacking and looting and burning and pillaging. This module - Tyranny of Dragons - begins with your defense of Greenest starting in the first chapter of the book, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and culminates in an epic battle with Tiamat in the sequel, The Rise of Tiamat. Our adventure will begin in Greenest and allow travel from there to locations all over Faerun. Together, we will explore this module throughout Faerun and a few new additions I have written myself to pad out some of the empty portions that just needed some extra padding.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
April 1 is a session 0, with all following sessions being spaced out biweekly. My rule of thumb is that there is a 3 player minimum for a session. So if we ever have cancellations that equate to less than 3 players, the session will be rescheduled. If we have 5+ players, I will also reschedule if we have 2+ cancellations.
