Gloryanna: The Young Country (Fridays)

Gloryanna: The Young Country (Fridays)

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Welcome to Atirnos! A vast fantasy world on the brink of a more modern century. In Gloryanna; a young country of few cities and vast frontiers is experiencing what we would know to be "the wild west". There's no slavery here; colonies are few and the indigenous peoples hold much of the population and power. At the same time; the threat of vicious monsters; unchecked human greed and dark politics loom over the common folk, threatening to burn down the world around them. Will you perish to the threats of the west? Or become a Glorian legend who's story will be written within dime novels for centuries to come? This is a weekly campaign inside my setting of Gloryanna who's overall story and direction will be based on the characters you create and bring into the world! Expect a lot of roleplay, plenty of danger and intrigue. New players and experienced players are welcome! I expect some decency in my games. That means if you have an issue with other players or me because of their ethnicity, gender or orientation than you're not welcome at this game.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Party notes

This is a fantasy-western game set in 5th Edition D&D rules! It's open to players of ALL experience levels. This is a homebrew game of my own creation! Leveling will be done through various milestones and various homebrew you might want to use may be acceptable based on review. I have two games up of this campaign! They're the same. One for Friday and one for Thursday. I intend to run whichever has the most interested players and cancel the other.

How to prepare

A good quality microphone/gaming headset. A good webcam is optional! Be sure to have or create an account for roll20. Also be sure to install Discord and have an account on it. If you're ready to play, I will send you a link to my Discord server.

What I provide

If you join my campaign, you all get a free copy of 'Gloryanna: The First Volley', (my book). It's a player's primer! Every option in that book is available to you as a player. If you'd like to bring in other homebrew material, bring it up with me first and I'll let you know if you can use it or not. For joining my game, I'll also create a character token for you for FREE, (if you want one that is). I will have something in mind for the story of the game! But I will also be utilizing your character backstories into the campaign as well. I use bad voice acting; I use rule of cool quite liberally and I stand by the saying that if players can do it, so can the DM. Combat will sometimes be theatre or the mind and sometimes there will be battle maps. I'll also be utilizing ambient music during the game. I have own app for keeping track of initiative and stat blocks! But if you prefer I roll on roll20 table, I can do that for you as well.

Gameplay details

Lines and veils are essentially a session 0 event! Basically, I will take note of things that you; as a player, do NOT want to see happen or appear in this game and I'll take lengths to avoid those things happening. If you forget something, don't worry as I'll also be using X cards. During the game, if you're very uncomfortable with the way a scene is head, drop a card down and I'll know to stop and dial something back. We'll also be taking breaks!

How will character creation work

By default, I use the 2014 5E rules with some 2024 options, (like the new Backgrounds). However, if the whole group prefers 2024 or would like more options from 2024, then we can switch to that instead. It's not a problem! You'll be making a level 1 character. On roll20, you will roll 4d6 and drop the lowest result. You will do this 6 times in a row and records these numbers. If you want to, you also roll like this a seventh time to try and replace the lowest total result. Hit points and can be rolled if you're brave or you can use averages. I don't mind either. For Homebound Features from 'Gloryanna: The First Volley' please DO NOT POWERSCALE! The Homebound Features are bound to your characters backstory and will be used as part of the campaign. You will choose 1 Homebound Feature from this book. ie: If you like a Homebound Feature is to be part of the Salikwayayi but your character is from the Sea Dragon Continent I WILL ask you to make that make sense. If you can do it in a proper way, there's no issue but if you can't then I'll ask you to choose another. All the subclasses, player species, feats, spells and items in 'Gloryanna: The First Volley' are available to you for your character creation! You can also use anything from any previously officially released 5E D&D book.
