About the adventure

"Shadows lurk, skies burn—strike before the dragons rise." World Information ------------------------------------ The Sword Coast has always attracted adventurers. The common adventurer seeks fortune, glory, or even fame. These are but the surface of what the Sword Coast offers. From the Northern Jewel Neverwinter to the Metropolis of Baldur's Gate, the span of the Sword Coast is filled with secrets unknown. Taken place in 1489 DR, dragon fire threatens to consume Faerûn! Do you dare oppose the Cult of the Dragon and resist the might of Tiamat, Queen of Dragons? Adventure Primer ----------------------------- The Sword Coast has never known peace for long. It breathes chaos and exhales opportunity—a land where danger walks beside glory, and gold glimmers just beyond the reach of fear. From the storm-lashed cliffs of Luskan to the grand halls of Waterdeep, adventurers come chasing tales of riches, relics, and renown. But those who venture into shadow do not always return… and those who do are seldom the same. This land is no stranger to strife. War, plague, and prophecy have carved their names into its history. Yet in recent months, a chill deeper than winter has begun to settle in the bones of Faerûn. Rumors drift on the wind—soft as a dragon’s wingbeat, sharp as its fang. They say the dragons are stirring. Ancient wings once folded in slumber now rustle in the dark. Strange cults gather in secret, their loyalties sworn to Tiamat, the Dragon Queen of legend. Caravans vanish without a trace. Flames light the skies in distant valleys. And whispers—always whispers—tell of a rising power long thought broken. Many dismiss it as nothing more than tavern gossip, the sort of story told over strong drink when the moon is high. But what if the stories are true? What if the Age of Dragons is not just returning… but has already begun? The Harpers, ever watchful, have dispatched their agents across the reaches of the Sword Coast to uncover the truth of these rumors and learn what foul design might be taking shape. In the face of such omens, heroes are needed more than ever. Whether drawn by fate or fortune, a handful of brave souls now stand on the threshold of legend. For in the times to come, the choices they make may shape the fate of the realm itself. And so begins your tale.

About me

My name is Frae, but I am often called Dr. Moosejaw as my gaming name/handle. My background is in theatre acting but I am now an engineer. But, once a nerd will always stay a nerd, and with TTRPG, I have combined my love for acting and high fantasy. I have played Dungeons and Dragons from 3.5e to 4e to 5e. And I fell in love with the simplistic nature of 5e. I have played D&D for over 10 years but I have started my role as a DM in 2018 and haven't stopped since then. My style employs a lot of visuals, so expect a lot of pictures, vibrant mapping, and vibrant characters in your adventures. I also emphasize the importance of music to build tension and atmosphere. I love to create a world where everyone playing feels included and each decision that they make matters to not only the world but to the people around them. In terms of mechanics, I love to give freedom to my players, the rulebook is more of a guideline to me than it is the law. With more experienced players I have a lot of homebrew rules to make gameplay a lot more fluid, but I tend to stay with the basics for beginners. I have DM-ed for players at any level of experience and even bringing complete beginners to love the game and what it has to offer. I also would like to say that if you're paying for a DM, you're expecting a higher standard. I love to have fun but I will behave professionally and will tend to each player as a professional DM. Whether you are new to D&D, an old timer, or that forever DM that wants to try their funky character concepts, if you're looking for a campaign that brings your character to life, join me in this adventure.

Character creation

Creating your character

Materials will be given out before session 0 which will be sufficient for players to start creating character concepts/art. Free session 0s will be there to flesh out any other details and information required to place each character in the world and ready for the adventure.

The current party

Currently at session 3 - and the party is still shaping up, currently we have 1 Barbarian, 1 Fighter, and 1 Paladin. New recruits will go through a play-by-post session to lead them to the current session to create a seamless integration to the party :)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A decent mic, headset, internet connection, and computer to run Roll20 Jumpgate. Discord will be used as a voice chat. Tools such as character sheet will be provided on Roll20 and available contents (books, etc.) will be shared.

What Frae brings to the table

No physical tools needed unless you want to (notebooks?). I love to emphasize on visuals so expect a lot of maps, music, and handouts in addition to what the module provides. With over 10000+ hours of Roll20 expertise, you can expect full mastery of the tool. :)

Homebrew rules

House Rules --- Infinite Basic Ammo You always have enough basic ammo, so long as the meaning of that isn't being gamed. Doomed At three failed death saves, you are doomed, no longer able to move, talk, or be healed, but will have time for last words. Death Saves (Level 1 - 4) Natural 20 on a death save only counts as 1 successful death saving throw. Massive Damage does NOT instantly cause a death. Instead, it merely forces a failed Death Saving Throw on top of knocking a person unconscious (if they weren't already). If the health doubles over twice, it causes two failed Death Saving Throws. If it triples over or more, it causes two failed death saving throws and the next one is made at disadvantage. Rolling a natural 1 will not cause two failed Death Saves, just one, but the next death saving throw is made at disadvantage. Adventurer's Knowledge As an adventurer, you've been to places most have not, facing dangers or wonders most people did not encounter. Characters know what the players know for combat purposes and in identifying objects. Ability Score Improvements (ASI) and Feats On a level up you have three options for when you gain an ASI: Gain +2 in one of your ability scores Gain +1 in 2 different ability scores Gain a feat and a +1 in any ability scores

Safety

How Frae creates a safe table

This is an epic fast-paced fantasy adventure filled with intense moments. A typical session would range from investigations, negotiations, combat, and memorable characters to roleplay with. The bulk of this adventure takes place on the stretch between Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter. The player will begin as adventurers who had been exposed by the threat of the cult, coming together through a common bond, they are roped into a much larger plot. The campaign begins at level 1 and ends at 15+, with a free session 0 and in-depth character building. Additionally, this campaign will run with the new 2024 rules. Content Warnings: there is a fairly typical amount of violence for a D&D campaign, the possibility of interrogation scenarios (which will be handled without graphic descriptions of violence), possibly themes of religious conflict, possibly violence against animals in some cases. We will discuss limits and triggers during session zero, and everyone should feel empowered to express their opinion if they feel the game has moved too far in a direction they are not happy with.
