About the adventure
You and your party are scrappy monster hunters, tracking down creatures on a contract-by-contract basis. Whether it's ending the threat of a stubborn troll to a small village, or bringing down a dragon to harvest it for a wizard's magical experiments, there's plenty of coin in it for those tough enough to survive the encounter! Campaign for Level 3 and up (no defined ending level), episodic style, combat-heavy, plot-/stakes-light, some West-Marches-style elements The Monster Hunter’s Guild is always looking for ambitious new adventurers to fill out the ranks! A quick bit of paperwork with the guild scribe, and you’re ready to choose your first contract. Some contracts are for slaying, some are for harvesting, some are for capture, and ~all~ are guaranteed to be paid out upon successful completion. And the spoils potentially left behind in the vacant lair? Unless an item is specifically mentioned to be recovered, the spoils are there for the taking, and considered a bonus for a job well done. It takes skill, guts, and luck to survive in this line of work. Do you have what it takes?

About me
I've been a writer and creator my whole life, and I have found no greater joy than telling epic stories with people who really want to weave a tale and explore a world together. I'm a character-centric, fun-focused, improv-heavy GM who's run two ongoing long-form campaigns and many one-shots and short adventures over 6+ years, and introduced dozens of people to D&D 5e. I ~love~ teaching new people how to play, and watching them learn and really settle in is one of my favorite things!

Creating your character
- This campaign starts at Level 3, and has no fixed ending level. - We will do character generation during the Session Zero; you can come with a few ideas to play with, or start character building during the session. - Character sheets can be form-fillable PDF, made on D&DBeyond or some other character builder, handwritten on printed out sheets, whatever method the player is most comfortable using, so long as they can send me digital copy of the sheet once completed, for reference (this digital copy can be a link, a scan, or even a photo). - Stats will be determined either by using 4D6-drop-the-lowest or my custom standard array, whichever the player is most comfortable with (both will be explained in Session Zero for those unfamiliar with either). - All official 5e content is allowed. Third party content for 5e (including classes, races, and spells) as well as homebrew options may be allowed, pending approval by the DM.
Session Zero scheduled for June 26th, 2025! Onboarding calls available for anyone joining the campaign after that date!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
- A steady internet connection - A Discord account, as we will do voice and video through Discord - A microphone - Webcams are not required, but are highly encouraged! - Access to a device with Google Chrome, for Owlbear Rodeo VTT. - Any third-party resources they used in character creation, for reference during the game, especially if I don't own that third party resource myself.
What Qylar brings to the table
Experience - I've been a GM for more than 6 years, and introduced many players to the game in that time, so I'm extremely comfortable guiding new players into the hobby. Custom Setting - a unique world, inspired by various media, cultures, mythologies, music, etc., (in this case, loosely inspired by general fantasy media and D&D monsters). Discord server - where we'll play the sessions, communicate, and post character pics/maps/etc. Maps - battlemaps from various sources, as well as custom world maps I draw myself. Google Drive - any player-relevant documents with lore information, calendars, etc. will be posted here (the link will be in Discord). Pre-generated character sheets - For anyone who doesn't want to make their own, especially players brand new to D&D 5e. Voices – I love doing voices and accents, and acting out the NPCs Character-driven – This game is episodic and plot-light, so the entire story is driven by the characters and their choices, whether that’s which contracts to take or how to accomplish a challenging hunt. Roleplay - I am a roleplay-leaning GM, and use NPCs (non-player-characters) to make the world live and breathe. Rule-of-Cool – Awesome moments generally win out over following guidelines. Investment - I most enjoy playing with players who are willing to care about the world, the NPCs, and most especially their fellow characters. Leveling Up - I use Milestone Leveling, because it makes more sense for the way I run games. Also, less bookkeeping on both the DM and the players.

How Qylar creates a safe table
- This game is for +18, and includes themes and content that range from PG-13 to R rating. For example, violence, bodily harm, gore, and the like could range more R-rated, while romantic encounters will be PG-13 max. About the GM - I am a Rule-of-Cool GM. More often than not, if you pitch me an idea and can explain why it would work, I’m likely to ‘yes, and’ or ‘yes, but’! - Reflavoring or reskinning abilities/spells/features is welcome and encouraged. - I strive to build trust with my players, and to make my tables a safe space for people to play in. - I record my own audio feed during every session, solely for my note-taking and reference use. In the first session, I will ask the table if they would be willing to allow me to record their audio as well, so I have a complete record of the session; consent to this must be unanimous, otherwise I will only be recording my own voice. House Rules - Drinking a potion is a bonus action - Everyone can spend their bonus action to make an extra attack, but you don't add your ability modifier to the damage dealt. - I give out Inspiration Points at the beginning of every game, one per player. They can be spent to reroll a D20 roll, given to a fellow player, traded in for an extra use of an ability or class feature, or to turn a regular hit into a critical hit. - Shields can be used as a weapon to make an attack; it deals 1D4 + Strength modifier of bludgeoning damage. - Spell preparation mechanics are optional. Safety Tools - We'll have a 15 minute break about halfway through the session, when we reach a good pause point. Players are encouraged to take breaks or step away at any point if things get too stressful during game or they need a breather. - Stars and Wishes each have their own channel in the Discord (Wishes can also be sent privately to me), and are a great way to express what you enjoyed or didn’t about the game! I'm also available through the Discord most days of the week, for debrief, questions, or discussion.
