About the adventure

A brand new Beginner friendly campaign called: "Mercenaries from the beyond!" is warping to a stage near you. With you as the driving force behind the narrative. In this campaign, I will be blending together two game systems: Dungeons and Dragons and Lancer! Here, your 5e character will be used to navigate the world and deal with mortal sized threats, while Knightmares (your robot that you make and the lancer portions of this campaign) will be used for mech base combat. The 2 combat systems will be blended together. Now, if you think, Knightmares are the answer to every combat, think again. The cost to operate your machines will eat up your earned money. There are fees to be a mercenary. You have equipment repairs, mech repairs, food, water, shelter, and gas needed to travel from planet to plant in order to take on contracts. In this universe, money is everything. So sometimes You will need to choose what contracts to take and who to work for and above all else, what side of your Morals do you stand on. It all happens Here, in "Mercenaries from the beyond!" **Very important** All players will be given a special Session during the weekday to Explore your back story and play with other people during that time if they wish. During these sessions, players may pick a day and other people to roleplay with and do a session together. I as the dm will be at your beck and call. The only caveat, is your special session must make it possible for all of you to attend on our full party game days what happen every Sunday at the very least. Should you join for a session during the weekday however, payment will still be charged if you miss Sunday. Think of it this way, you can get 3 sessions for the price of 1 if other players invite you into their sessions. *Review from a player named C. Gauthier* *"Shadow’s enthusiasm for the game and his players’ stories is absolutely infectious! He has a knack for figuring out how to tie even the most seemingly unrelated backstories together, and how to foster his players’ talents at the table to make each game something really special. I’ve both laughed out loud and cried during his sessions, and loved even the hardest emotional gut punch he could throw at my unsuspecting characters. His villains are truly insidious, and he knows how to get each and every party member to genuinely want to take them down. He’s extremely approachable outside of sessions as well, and his dedication to working with his players to make sure they’re engaged and excited is genuinely inspiring."* "This is the kind of DM you want if you’re looking for a roleplay heavy campaign. He’ll put your character through hell, but their story is going to be amazing because of it"

About me

With over 12 years of experience and running more groups then I can count; I know how to craft an adventure that will bring you and your friends to tears. I do this by placing YOU at the center of it all. Every decision counts. Every roll of the dice changes the story. Every character gets their turn in the spotlight. For this is YOUR story. Not mine, not your friends, YOUR STORY, And You know what? I still can't get enough of how unbelievably creative my players can be and if we add in what YOU bring to the table it will be even better. I love these games and I love the stories and memories that WE ALL create TOGETHER. My games are thoughtful, Inclusive, and full of Details from all of my players. But most of all they are unbiased and NON JUDGEMENTAL. I work hard to make sure everyone has an opportunity to shine and feel Safe at my table. I am the game master that will take ANY story you give me and see it through to the end. But most of all, i will work with you out of character in discord and talk for hours on end if you want about an idea you have. Give it to me and I will run it. For my name is Shadow, and I will run the stories you want to tell. “Your story, starts now” **A review from a very valued player in one of my Campaigns by Jared Gallop** *"Shadow is an INCREDIBLE storyteller, allows for a LOT of really cool story to happen and is really good about rule of cool, maintaining balance throughout some really insane encounters. I've played with him for almost 2 years now and he NEVER disappoints. Shadow also is really good about incorporating your backstory into the campaign, and will ALWAYS take into account what you want with your character. He is very knowledgeable and friendly, always wants to make sure people feel comfortable and safe in his games. Most of all, he is both a fantastic dungeon master and a great friend."*

What Dm: Shadow brings to the table

1. A 1 week session try out period! This will be free to play sessions allowing you time to try out the system and my DM style. Should you stay, every week after will be $15. This is my real life job after all. 2. A fully player driven story with Custom maps, and music to help with visuals and environment. 3. 3 hours Game sessions so that my players take their time and not feel like they are rushed with anything. I also want to encourage role play that happens naturally 4. Characters on D&D beyond. These will be your overworld characters per say and are the ones you're using to pilot your big robots. 5. Lots of different missions type where Some can be Stealth missions, others could infiltration, or even Assassination or search and destroy. There are so many ways these kinds of missions can go and I think it will be a lot of fun for both roleplay and combat. Now, if you have never played lancer before, here is the info. Lancer is normally very heavy on the Combat side as your pilot traditionally is genuinely very weak and is harder to role play with. You do have weapon attacks and skills and stuff, but it's not that fun and is hard to form combat around them normally. What is fun however, is using a big robot to cleave your enemies in 2, scanning for weaknesses, outwitting your opponent, and even snipping with a high powered anti material rifle and watching the damage it does. Lancer is indeed a lot of fun combat side, but on the roleplay side, the creators never really thought about that. you were after all inside your mechs more times then you were out. That is why i am taking what i like about 5e: What is your character customizations and role play potential and mixing it with the lancer system. What is all about big robots you outfit yourself and skills and abilities you get. Together it will i think, fix the problem and make combat and roleplay very interesting and unique for all. For example, in one mission you might need to take a manned pod down to a planet. From there, your getting resources from towns and making connections so you gain intel, so that way you can reach an enemy base without being seen. Your main mission might be to get there and destroy the enemy "Anti Artillery Defense Systems" which would blow up your drop pods should your mech descend on to the planet and destroy all chances of completing your mission. once done, you rendezvous with you mech and finish the mission by destroying the base and all other enemies inside it. This is a campaign of wonder and of exploration after all. A Campaign where you're in outer space! This is where you're Exploring Alien planets and finding Ancient never before seen ruins that have great history or even a greater mystery... You will also meet new races and form alliances.. You will have big galactic battles where ships and Mobile suit combat happens, or maybe even help stage a rebellion to help a planet's citizens repel a very nasty dictator. The choice is up to you

Homebrew rules

1: Sudden gambit: when you or an enemy roll to hit and meet the corresponding Armour class exactly, a sudden gambit may be initiated. When this happens imagine time stopping for all people but those a part of this. You have a split second to try to outwit your opponent with a skill of your choice or to think outside the box. But it must make sense what you are trying to do. Whoever secedes will crit their opponent causing max damage. A sudden gambit may also occur when a problem arises like a fireball comes flying towards you and you must think of what to do to not get hit. Pay attention to when these happen as it could mean life or death. 2. Critical and critical mis: If you roll a 20 on a D20 you will get the best possible result. If you roll a 1 on a d20 you will get the worst possible result. This even happens on ability checks. no one is perfect and luck can screw people even in real life! (have you ever missed a step irl and fell down the stairs before??) 3. Don't Give the DM bad idea - Should you ever say something like, “at least it can't get worse, or at least the terrask isnt here” may cause the encounter to change and become worse for the players. be careful what you wish for. (Evil dm laugh) 4. Inspiration: for great role playing or for doing an action and coming up with an idea that the Dm finds great, you may be rewarded with inspiration. Inspiration allows you to do called shots. These are attacks you can do that will have a huge impact on battle and can severely weaken an enemy permanently if done right. Also, instead of doing called shots you may re-roll any dice you roll at advantage. Must choose one or the other before you roll the dice. 5. The Rule of Cool - In most situations, if a player tries to do something that is not exactly by the book, as long as it is at least somewhat plausible The DM may allow an action to happen if it is cool. In some attempts however a skill or ability check may be required. Successfully pulling off this rule of cool moments may grant you boons if it goes well or minor determinants if it goes horribly wrong. NOTE: this can not be used to copy a class or feat ability and may not majorly handicap an enemy without inspiration. IE: stabbing out a monster's eye to blind them. 6. Character deaths - I will mostly try to avoid character deaths, instead preferring to have the character captured or something of the like where they can return later. That being said, should a character act recklessly, the consequences of your actions can include the death of the character. 7. Scarring and Lingering Injuries - Players that suffer from massive damage or particularly nasty knockouts, have a chance of developing scars or lingering injuries that can not be healed unless they visit a Major Church in a major City. In many cases this will cost the player characters a moderate sum of gold or they must promise to complete a quest for the Church for free.
