About the adventure

The Silver Bond casts your party as survivors of a dragon attack on the quiet mountain village of Silver Summit. Likely the place you were born and raised, Silver Summit's now gone, razed to an ancient dragon's roost. Whether you were friends, enemies, or strangers in Silver Summit, you're a party of circumstance now, and you'll need to stick together to stay alive. Explore an original valley region, marked by tiny, troubled villages and dense, dangerous forests. Maybe you'll even find your way to the capital - a strange and isolationist city stronghold carved right into the side of a mountain. You'll find almost everyone in the valley seems to have some problem in need of solving - maybe even if Silver Summit was beyond saving, you can do some good out here? Or at the very least, you can make some coin. Find friends, gather your strength, and establish yourselves a new home base to work from. Remember though - a dragon watches from the misty peak that used to be Silver Summit. It'll take time before you're ready to face her on more equal footing, but in the meantime, adventure calls in the valley! The Silver Bond takes place in the canon Golarion setting, within a homebrew region ruled by a royal family who hasn't been seen outside their palace in four generations. This is an exploration and adventure campaign, with new quest arcs to find and people to help in every village you come across. Players will also optionally be able to build up a base of operations, even one with followers through the game's leadership subsystem. This will be a classic long-term campaign, expected to run from level 1 to around 20. The tone will vary from quite heavy to light. Quests may sometimes contain darker themes or horror elements - see details for more info.

About me

Hi friends! I'm Charlie. I've been playing tabletops in some form or another for a decade, and I've been GMing for about half that time. I consider myself a helpful, enthusiastic GM who loves player enthusiasm and creativity, and I like for my games to have range - from lots of lighthearted fun to serious moments of drama, horror, or emotion. Fun fact - my other job is 'romance writer', and I love bringing my character writing experience to the table with lovable NPCs for my players to interact with and complex villains for them to love to hate.

Charlie is an excellent GM who shows sincere care for his players and interests in their characters. I've had the privilege of writing and playing with Charlie for a few years, and his creativity as a writer and a Game Master never ceases to amaze. He's very accommodating to new players, and he's exceptional at creating a welcoming atmosphere for every kind of player -- new and old alike. Highly recommend him as a GM.

Charlie is a great game master that puts a ton of effort into the games he runs. In the games and sessions I've played with him, he's always done a great job of setting the mood with music, evocative descriptions, the occasional sound effect, and great online boards. The plot lines have been fun and engaging with interesting PCs that are fun to interact with and help flesh out the setting.

Charlie is great! He both knows the rules of the system and allows for some Rule Of Cool. He's also very flexible, whether you want to write a short backstory, or a long one with some homebrew elements :-) He's got some really cool visuals and will even make an token for your character! Super fun to play with, definitely recommend

Charlie and I have been playing together for a LONG time--he was one of my first GMs with a campaign that lasted longer than two sessions. From our days in Roll20 to VTT Foundry, he's very experienced with putting together online sessions and creating plenty of interesting and exciting locations and missions, along with a ton of extra lore and worldbuilding. Charlie does a lot of prep for each of his campaigns and he juggles quite a few of them without missing a beat. He also knows the rules for tons of different games: I usually have played Pathfinder (both 1e and 2e) and Monster of the Week with him, but you can trust that he'll read through the rulebook and help you out if you're not familiar with the mechanics of your character or the game itself. Charlie is also a really great actor and improviser, but he leaves a lot of space for PC interactions with each other, which I really appreciate as someone who cares a lot about the roleplaying aspect of TTRPGs. He also makes space for you to explore different aspects of characters, and really cares about hosting inclusive and respectful tables, especially when it comes to darker themes that we've explored before. Lastly, Charlie is pretty flexible when it comes to scheduling. When you play with him, expect to have longer sessions with scheduled breaks, plus debriefs at the end.

I've been playing both Pathfinder and Monster of the Week with Charlie as my GM for the last year and he's been a joy to play with the whole way through. He's creative, well-prepared, and very knowledgeable about the games which helped a great deal when I was getting onboarded as a new player and continues to be wonderful now that I'm more experienced. The vibes of his games are fun and entertaining and he's always willing to work with players to make "that cool thing you want for your character" happen—but he's also absolutely willing to let you get your ass kicked by monsters too. There is balance in all things. He's also just a great guy and fun to hang out with! I keep coming back for more games with him and I don't plan on stopping. :)

Character creation
Creating your character

Session 0 will be 50% off, and we'll do the following: - Discuss party composition - Build character sheets - Decide the relationships all your characters have to each other - Discuss safety tools Because your characters are all from an intertwined community, it's best to discuss your character with your fellow players before making a firm decision on things. That is to say, things probably won't work as well if you come to the table with a pre-made character and try to slot them into the setting. Collaborating with your fellows will give you the opportunity to make interesting choices regarding your relationship to other player characters! Friends? Foes? Family? Also, while I'd usually welcome a 10 page backstory, remember that you're level 1 adventurers all from the same small town. Simple backstories will be more than sufficient. We will play with the following variant rules: - Automatic Bonus Progression - Free Archetype - Ancestral Paragon Players should feel free to use any common options for character creation. Uncommon options are also usually fine, but they should be discussed with me first. Rare options may require more work or justification to be integrated into your character. Remember that your character comes from a small village, in an isolated valley, in a remote corner of Avistan, so character creation should reflect that. Still, I'm not so strict as to say 'common ancestries only'. If you want to play a kholo, you can play a kholo. We'll make it work. That said, some of the wackier ancestries like skeleton or conrasu might be difficult to work into the setting. I encourage you to use your good judgment when considering builds, and feel free to ask me if you're unsure! When looking at backgrounds, feats, and spells, all common options are available. For uncommon or rare, check with me!

The current party

Current party consists of an elf rogue, a human summoner, a halfling/nephilim druid, and a minotaur magus. Additional players are welcome to either play a character from the other characters' hometown or a character they meet while traveling through The Valley, but if you're interested in the latter option, you'll need to discuss with me to get lore and figure out what's going to make the most sense for your character and give them appropriate motivation to follow the rest of the party!

What to expect
Preparing for the session

To play, players will need: - A Discord account - A decent, working microphone (It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but out of courtesy for your fellow players, please ensure you're able to be understood and there isn't an undue amount of background noise or static from your mic.) - A stable internet connection - A computer capable of running Foundry VTT with a decent amount of modules installed (I try to avoid extremely large or animation-heavy maps, and I have recommended settings to increase performance for players on older machines. If you can reliably run modern games, you can almost certainly run Foundry. We'll be testing it during Session 0, so no harm, no foul if not.) This game is beginner friendly - I love teaching PF2E to new people! That said, if you want to familiarize yourself with the basic rules ahead of time, I recommend checking out the new player guide on Archives of Nethys: https://2e.aonprd.com/PlayersGuide.aspx

What Charlie brings to the table

💚 My GMing: With me, you can expect a game heavy on roleplay and relationships, broken up by challenging, tactical combat. Despite the rather dark premise that backdrops the campaign, don't expect a dark or dour table. For me, darkness is fun precisely because it lets the light shine even brighter! Expect a healthy dose of lighthearted moments and catharsis between all the fraught emotions. I pride myself on setting the mood with ambient soundtracks, striking visuals, and well-crafted characters for you to interact with. Since PF2E is such a mechanically intelligent system, I run games mostly RAW (Rules-As-Written) or, when it makes more sense, RAI (Rules-As-Intended), but I also bring improvisation skills and a love for Rule of Cool from my favorite mechanics lite systems, like Monster of the Week. If you want to do something awesome, and it makes sense for that thing to happen, I'll probably let it happen! I'll do my best to make it work RAW, but I'm a narrative first kind of GM. The rules are there to support the game, not get in the way of it. ✅ I Will Provide: - Foundry VTT - Premium maps - Custom tokens via Czepeku Tokens, or other art sources if you can't find something you like in their catalogue - A private Discord server for voice chat, access to game materials, and a place where you can reach me more often than not. ❌ I will NEVER use GenAI assets in my games. Players are not to bring GenAI assets to the table. If you need assistance finding art sources that aren't GenAI, please check in with me. ❌

Safety
How Charlie creates a safe table

During our Session 0, we'll discuss all the safety tools and how to use them. We'll go through the Deck of Player Safety together, and if anyone has any additional questions or concerns, we'll go over those. During regular sessions, we'll have 15 minute breaks every 2 hours, and, of course, players are welcome to step away for bathroom breaks and the like at any time. We'll also maintain an open door policy, and an X card module will be installed in Foundry VTT for player use. Since the game begins with a mass traumatic event, please expect some intense emotions for your characters. They may not know the fates of people close to them, or if they do, it might not be good news. They'll also have to contend with knowing they can't immediately return to help anyone, and the frustration of not being able to find anyone else capable or willing to handle it more quickly for them. As your GM is a big horror fan, players should also expect at least some quests to involve elements of horror, including frightening or gory descriptions. My games will never include implications or depictions of sexual assault. I am a queer GM with ADHD, and my table is meant to be a safe and welcoming place for marginalized players. I have a zero tolerance policy for rude or discriminatory behavior. I take player safety and boundaries very seriously. Especially given the dark premise and horror elements you'll encounter in this adventure, it's important to me that everyone walks away from the table having had a good time. Honest post-session debriefings are valuable, and players should expect to take 15-20 minutes after sessions for debriefings and Stars & Wishes.
