About the adventure

This adventure takes place halfway through Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk. In it, players will be recruited by the council of Phandalin to learn more about the link between Stormwreck Isle, and the recently discovered Forge of Spells. This arc will take place as a continuation of a previous LMoP arc, but the change of scene will offer a fresh starting point for new characters. The campaign will take players from level 5 to 8, and will feature a mixture of social and combat activity - with some mystery thrown in! Once on the island, the party will find and work with the folk of Dragon's Rest to learn what they can and tackle some ancient danger! This adventure arc is largely homebrewed, but will liberally borrow elements from P&B and Dragons of Stormwreck Isle. It will likely be 5-7 sessions long, but as with any estimate of campaign length, it's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string'. Don't expect the plot to follow that of DoSI - I'm taking things in a different direction!

About me

I've been playing D&D for over a year at the time of writing, and I have been DMing for about 6 months. I'm approaching this with a sense of humour, a sense of openness, and a sense of fun. I believe in working together - DMs and players each doing their part to tell (and be part of) a fun story that is safe, tonally consistent, and led-by-rules-but-also-the-rule-of-cool.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will be expected to create a Level 5 character before the session, or use pre-gen ones I have made. I am happy to answer questions to help them fit into the story, or to set you up with a character if you'd prefer. I generally encourage a character you enjoy playing, who will find a way of connecting with the quest in front of them. Players who have played my previous Lost Mine of Phandelver campaign are welcome to continue using their characters if they join. Full character guidelines will be on my Discord - this campaign will use the 2024 PHB, and will not use homebrew or partner content for character creation.

The current party

This game will take place every other week. The requirement for the campaign to get started, and then for each session to go ahead, is 3 players - but hopefully we'll end up with a party of 4 or 5. I'm hoping to start in January 2025, once the holidays and new year are behind us! For players who are new to me - I ask for a quick call at a mutually convenient time just so we know you and the game are a good fit for each other.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I expect players to have Discord installed and be able to communicate clearly and without excessive feedback on voice chat (for this reason, I ask players to use a headset). I expect players to be familiar with D&D Beyond and the AboveVTT extension which links with it (and which needs to be added to your browser). These platforms are free, and guidance exists for both online - I'm happy to help once you're online, but just ask you to meet me halfway. Players will be asked to read my Rules and Character Creation sections on my Discord (https://discord.gg/Y5qBjTa3kV) ahead of time, and to introduce themselves before the campaign (just so I know you're a real person!) As an educator and therapist, I'm patient and happy to help people who are still learning, but I am responsible to (and needed by) the whole table, so players taking the initiative and learning on the go is much appreciated!

What Dice with Dom brings to the table

I bring access to core books on D&D Beyond, the use of the AboveVTT platform for maps and initiative tracking, thematic music (which players can mute/quieten if preferred), and a patient DMing approach. At my table, we all respect each other and what we're trying to do. I'll give your opportunities for roleplay, combat, and fun moments within the party. I'm less interested in min-maxed 'builds', more interested in your characters and working with you to bring them to life. That said, I do like to maintain a nice balance of Rules As Written with fun character moments and rewarding player ingenuity! I tend to bring humour, warmth, and a thread of social justice to my games, and this adventure arc may well contain all 3! My character voices aren't the best, but I do what I can to bring the world and characters to life
