About the adventure
Create an Island and explore the rail lines of the Present, a place inspired by Breath of the Wild, Castle in the Sky, and Americana folktales - Based in the world of Spare the Crying Podcast! Together using A Quiet Year, we will begin by guiding a community living in a post-post apocalyptic world - a place where safety can be found only in patches of land called 'Islands' protected by Guardians, powerful fey that lend their abilities in exchange for whatever sacrifice they may desire. The Fey vary - the Brownie Queen guardian wants only a bowl of milk, while the Devil asks for souls. Who is our Guardian, and what do they ask of us? What issues does our Island face? This is where are characters meet. Only in recent days can the wealthier folk travel their world, across the 'Oceans' of danger, by train, across the thin leylines that connect these Islands of safety, learning more and more about the shadows of the past and the mysteries of the Present as they go. Where will our Island lay along these tracks? Where will our characters go from there - and, more importantly, how?

About me
My name is Moon, I am the Dm for Spare the Crying podcast, and a variety of games on the side! I would love to host a game with you if you like folktale inspired fantasy, Americana, and stories with both fun combat and emotional depth. Feel free to request whatever game you wish, let’s chat. I love helping my players tell engaging tales with a good mix of fun and angst! I love to engage into character arcs, and create roleplay-heavy games mixed with fun combat. My favorite inspirations are Americana myths, folk and fairy tales, and Ghibli worlds. I have played: DnD 5e, Monster of the Week, The Quiet Year, Fiasco, and Wanderhome.

Creating your character
Please create your character ahead of time as fully as you can, though you are free to bring questions to Session 0 if something is confusing. This is a game for players of all experience levels, so don't be afraid to ask your questions!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Webcams are not required if you prefer audio only. There are a few different video platforms listed that we can use, but discord is preferred!
What Moon Lo brings to the table
These games will last about one 'season' (~10 sessions) with a conclusion that is open-ended enough to let us decide if we want to carry on further, or to end things there! I use a Roll 20 and discord to run games, can hand out PDFs of basic rules, and I will provide the Quiet Year playing cards - all you need is some dice, virtual or physical! I am a big fan of Rule of Cool and story driven games, and fun combat that moves along in interesting ways to push the tale. I love character voices and NPCs, character driven scenes, and backstory integration, so feel free to send a long backstory doc my way!

How Moon Lo creates a safe table
This world will not include: Fantastical or real-life based racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or directly comparable events to real life tragedies. My games usually have some other, more intense themes, but we will discuss which are no-goes in session 0. Though there is no queer-phobia, feel free to create trans and queer characters and have them go on their own personal journey with their identity! Before Session 0, I will request triggers and Lines and Veils from each player to send to me anonymously, and these will be discussed before the session begins in front of all players. Themes can be as dark or as light as you wish, though I won't GM games into anything 'X' rated!
