The Wild Beyond the Witchlight | Beginner & LGBTQIA+ Friendly
A whimsical fairy-tale campaign, traveling from a magical carnival into the Feywild. What did you lose, and how will you get it back?
About the adventure
The Witchlight Carnival has come to town, bringing "the fun of the Feywild for the whole family"! Tempted by magical snacks, giant dragonfly rides, faerie dragon aerialists, and more, how could any child resist sneaking in? It's a night of wonder and whimsy...but eventually, breaking the rules has its price. Something precious and irreplaceable is stolen from you: your sense of fashion, perhaps, or a beloved family heirloom, or your luck. Years later, the carnival returns. This time, you're not a child but a grown-up adventurer, ready to get some answers. Will you uncover the mysteries of the carnival? Will you find out who took your Lost Thing, and why? When the time comes, will you be able to bargain—or fight—to get back what you lost? This is a whimsical, lighthearted adventure into the Feywild, with lots of space for roleplay and hijinks. PCs will start as children and play through their first night at the carnival, eventually advancing to level 8 (with milestone leveling). You'll explore a wild and wonderful setting, meet silly and intriguing NPCs, solve mysteries, and maybe even become heroes. Great for absolute beginners and experienced players alike; this is an excellent intro to D&D, with endless opportunities for player creativity. Expect inclusive, high-magic fun. The Feywild awaits!

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi, I'm Emi! I'm a queer, trans DM who loves running games full of fun and whimsy, and creating spaces for players to have safe and exciting emotional experiences. I love DMing for players who want to be heroes; I love to present problems that can be solved with the power of friendship and doing your best; and I'm not interested in making anyone count their arrows or repair their boots. I also enjoy adapting tropes and archetypes, and seeing how players interact with them in unexpected ways. I'd describe my games as having "fairy tale energy."

Emi is a fun, supportive, and knowledgable DM! I’ve played in several of their one-shots and think their games are perfect for players who like heroic adventures (with time for player hijinks along the way), fun NPCs, and solving puzzles. Sometimes in Dnd I have trouble understanding where I am in a room or what I could do next in a scene, but in Emi’s games I’ve felt a lot more confident in what my character could explore or interact with next. They also set the mood at the table with music and used visuals like maps and NPC illustrations — loved that!!! Really leveled up the experience! They’re patient when players need help understanding the rules, so if you’re a beginning player I think you could have a great first experience in Emi’s games!
I played in a winter themed one-shot designed and run by Emi and it was very fun! I enjoyed how the adventure was both a tightly knit and cohesive experience while still being open ended and nonlinear. The roleplaying and voices for the different NPCs were varied and convincing, and the mini-dungeon was full of interesting and thematic combat, social, and puzzle encounters that the party could encounter in any order depending on what route they took, with multiple approaches to handling the final boss.
Character creation
Creating your character
PCs will start as children. You should choose your character's name and species before Session 0, but we'll build the rest of your child character sheet together in Session 0. After the childhood "prelude" (1-2 sessions), you'll create a full adult character at level 1. - Stats from standard array or point-buy, or rolled in the Discord server. - All pre-2024 official content allowed. - Standard starting equipment. Characters should be heroic and motivated to adventure with the party. This is a whimsical, roleplay-heavy campaign, so purely combat-focused characters may not be very fun to play. Pregen characters available on request!
Welcome! New players will schedule a quick onboarding call with me before your first session to chat about playstyle and character ideas. The party has just arrived in the Feywild, and is now level 2—new players are still very welcome!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need: - a free D&D Beyond account - a free Roll20 account - a free Discord account - a working microphone - headphones, or other way to prevent audio feedback - a heart open to whimsy and fun Strongly suggested: - a working webcam - a device with a large screen, e.g. laptop or desktop computer—tablets and mobile phones often struggle with the VTT Optional, but might help: - the Beyond20 extension to send your rolls from D&D Beyond to the VTT/Discord

Safety
How DM Emi creates a safe table
I'll send out a Google Form before Session 0 to inquire about players' limits and preferences. We'll review these limits (anonymized) together, and limits will always be available for quick reference. In our Session 0, we'll discuss the desired tone and stakes of the game as a group. We'll also establish connections between player characters and tie backstories together; we may build characters together. During sessions, we'll use a traffic light system to indicate if anyone needs to stop or check in. Traffic light cards will be available on the VTT, and everyone is also welcome to use this system verbally—or just say "hey, wait, I'd like to check in about that"! Debriefing (via Stars and Wishes) will take place at the end of every session, and I'll be available for further debriefing between sessions if necessary. Feedback and player safety is very important to me! Players are also encouraged to use the Discord server to chat and debrief with each other between sessions. We'll be using the 2014 ruleset.
