About the adventure
Expect intense combat and lots of organic random events in a Bronze Age setting fraught with the ambitions of change and the remnants of ancientry! The world's vistas are rewilding, the Eldest and Risen Gods move again the thews, and three vast empires vie for power. Can your characters' actions avert continental disaster? Or has the fracturing hourglass of peace finally run out? ⚔️ Overground dungeon crawl with a modern narrative! ⚔️ A RUSH OF BLOOD AND GLEAMING BRONZE is a world of vast empires vying for power as ancient magic stirs once more, dragging the world into a continental spear & sword conflict. This is an epic world-scale adventure built on your decisions and passions. I run plotlines reactively and throw up set pieces and quests as suggestions and challenges. The foundation of this game is the fully conceptualised world and goal-driven NPCs, and the structure is the main characters — you! 🔔 We'll have a chat at a convenient time before your first session as a world/story primer, to talk through your character, go through any expectations or preferences you have. Basically to make sure we’ll be a good match — whenever you’re free! 🔔

About me
Hullo, I'm L, British GM — it's a pleasure! PASSION is where I'm at right now. This is not only some of the most fun a person can have, it's also really important to where we are as a species. Sure, it's a window into the unknown and unfamiliar, but its real PSYCHIC BOON is how much you can learn about yourself and the people you're playing with. A writer since birth (moving gradually through fantasy/alt history/post-modern romance/pulp fiction/sci-fi), I took instantly to GMing. Being able to immerse others in such a direct and collaborative was a BREATH. After six years running games in person and online with local and worldwide friends, I became a dad, and then more of us became parents, and it became very difficult to schedule games. But NOW I find out there's a way to do what I love (and am very good at, promise!) while getting a bit of nappy/diaper pocket money? Sign me up!

Creating your character
Before you join, we'll get you into the Discord channel and you can start bashing around character ideas. You can choose 2014 or 2024. STATS There are a few different options for determining stats. This campaign is on the more heroic side, so higher stats than usual make sense. 🎲 Roll: 5d6-drop-lowest. 💰 Point Buy: Distribute, then assign either +2 or two +1s. 📈 Standard array: Distribute, then assign either +2 or two +1s. CLASS & RACE I don't have any issues with any class or race, the world is very accommodating, though I'll probably work with you to fit in some flavour tweaks. For example, dwarves are either mountain-dwelling or journey-minded, elves are bound by certain rituals, and inhabit either boreal forest or jungle. If there's a character fully-formed and upright that comes to mind, I'll definitely find a way of making it work. Otherwise, I've got a bunch of pre-gens you can choose from and tweak how you like. BACKSTORY Some might prefer handing me a few pages of backstory and motivations, others might prefer to discover these as we play. I'm perfectly happy with both! I would ask for a hometown, or at least a place that's important to you, and I've a few questions to run through if you want, to give a jumpstart. However, the world is a changeable feast based on your passions and has blank areas to set off your creativity, so feel free to let your imagination run! EXISTING PLAYERS The game started in September 2024, and all the Players have been through a few characters (either retired or tragically felled), most recently only a few sessions ago, so any new character will fit right in. By my guesstimate we're probably 30 or 40% through, but still massive opportunities for change and development. The current PCs making up the "Double Negatives" just reached 9th level. We have a Goliath Cleric, an Eladrin Artificer, a Half-Orc Monk/Paladin, and two Human Wizards joined recently.
The PCs are 6th level, going on 7th. We have a Goliath Cleric, an Eladrin Artificer, a Bugbear Sorcerer, an Elven Rogue/Wizard and we have just been joined by a Human Wizard. As part of the Ten Siblings mercenary group, they finished their first quest (dubbed the "Tutorial quest, though it became a bit grander than that and spanned 13 sessions), and have gone through four or five side quests, eventually calling themselves the Double Negatives. The first quest was an urbancrawl / citycrawl across hexes to instil law and order in the city and punish instigators of chaos, and culminated in fighting demons, leading a massive melee between guards and cultists and burning down a palace. Then now the main game opened up and they started off on the proper adventuring life with an enchanted misty forest, a band of mercenary deserters, and a corrupted mountain-heart in the old dwarven mines (connected to the Underdark). From there, they returned to the grand city of Ithranis and have embroiled themselves in political strife as two empires vie over control of the broken city-state they freed. . . . We can have a short call together before next session, or else get you up and running on Discord and you can jump right in!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a working mic, Discord and D&D Beyond. Owlbear doesn't need an account and works grand on most devices.
What L Sunborn Games brings to the table
A coherent but flexible player-driven world. This means it's built and amended around the decisions you make and everything that you are interested in, and that it functions in reaction to your passions and convictions. I'm very comfortable with sudden shifts and thinking on the fly! Eormengrim, as a hex grid world map, has four distinct continents and a massive amount to explore as you grow your character and move towards your own ends. We have a D&D Beyond campaign for everyone's character (a mix of 2014/2024, with lots of additional modules and homebrew). We use Owlbear maps with custom tokens for hex exploration and combat, and voice chat on Discord with ambient/atmospheric music. I'll also provide character voices galore! At the end of each session, I sketch out the main beats of the session while it's fresh it everyone's memory, then before the next session (usually Monday), I do a proper write-up that everyone can collaborate on and will be used to introduce the next session. It'll be challenging D&D combat against lore-driven enemies — many homebrew, but also making sure you all get to fight all the classics.
Homebrew rules
Many, but none too controversial! It's all the greatest hits (potion as a bonus, improved critical hits, secret death saves), as well as a bunch of custom-made mechanics arising from the gameplay of the players (random encounters, journeying, crafting, henchmen training, and many more). With everything else, they're collaborative — I'll always be happy for critique and to make sure to bounce off you. How L Sunborn Games creates a safe table
At any time you can let me know about lines and veils and I'll stick to 'em religiously. Any player can also pause the game for 5 minutes or so, no questions asked. We can discuss what's just happened, any future play, or the football (I don't know anything about this, but I'll happily listen!), or just all have a quick bathroom break. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. The content/trigger warnings below are not exhaustive. Basically, let your mind delve into tropes of pulpy sword & sorcery, and we'll probably get there at some point. HOWEVER there will be no majorly problematic content or themes, nothing outright abusive or discriminatory -- if you have a concern, shoot me a line or veil.
