About the adventure
A Desperate Quest in a Dying Land... In the city of Springshore, the once-vibrant wilderness has been reduced to poisoned rivers, barren fields, and desolate forests. A silver rush has brought wealth to the city, but at a devastating cost—the wildlands are disappearing, and with them, the creatures that once roamed free. Now, only a single owlbear remains, a symbol of the fragile natural order that holds the world together. You and your party are entrusted with a crucial mission: escort this last owlbear to a sanctuary hidden deep in the mountains, far from the reach of civilization's greed. But the journey will be perilous. You'll navigate treacherous terrain, confront the forces of corruption, and face moral dilemmas that could change the fate of Springshore forever. Every choice matters, and the path you take will determine the future of the wilds—and perhaps even the world itself. Along the way, you’ll need to outwit and avoid powerful foes who have their own dark designs for the owlbear. Will you choose to protect the balance of nature, or will the lure of power and wealth sway your decisions? The challenges you face will test not only your combat skills but your resolve and wisdom as well. This D&D adventure is designed for players who enjoy a mix of exploration, moral choices, owlbear cuteness, and intense combat encounters. With early access to the 2024 D&D 5e rules, you’ll have the chance to experience the updated mechanics and see how your favorite classes and spells have evolved. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or new to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, this game offers a rich narrative and thrilling challenges that will keep you on the edge of your seat. All gameplay will be facilitated through D&D Beyond for character creation and encounters, with voice chat over Discord for communication. Prepare with your party, hone your strategies, and embark on a journey where every decision could mean the difference between salvation and destruction. The fate of Springshore rests in your hands—will you rise to the challenge?

About me
Characters are what make a story come to life. Without them, the world is just a setting with no moving plot. I put the central focus of my storytelling on the drives and desires of the player characters and the NPCs I run, in order to tell the story from the ground-up based on their interactions and conflicts of interest. I started running game in 2002, playing AD&D (2nd edition) with friends in a Haggen's food court. Since then, I've run everything from White Wolf to Dark Heresy to Savage Worlds, always looking for new mediums to tell stories through. I've even made a couple homebrew systems and subsystems of my own! I almost always write my own stories and campaigns, but will sometimes run pregenerated adventures to stay current on trends and new GMing techniques. I also make custom campaigns for birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, etc. If you want me to make you something special, just reach out to me and we can talk details.

Creating your character
Characters will start at Level 5, using the revised 2024 Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition ruleset. After you join the game, I will give you access to our Discord lobby and the D&D Beyond campaign with access to the revised rules. I'll check in with you before Session 1 to make sure your character is complete. I'll also have a selection of premade characters for you to choose from if you'd prefer that.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll want a microphone and access to Discord voice chat, either installed or in-browser. You will also need a D&D Beyond account to run your character, regardless of whether you use a pregenerated character or make your own. You don't need to be familiar with all the new rules, but you should know how to use your character sheet on D&D Beyond. You'll have early access to the 2024 D&D 5e rules, allowing you to explore the latest updates in character creation and mechanics. For smooth gameplay, I’ll handle all encounters and mechanics through D&D Beyond, while communication and role-playing will take place via Discord voice chat. My goal is to create a collaborative and engaging adventure where your decisions shape the story, making every session on your way to the Owlbear Sanctuary memorable and exciting.

How The Chronicler creates a safe table
Before we start Session 1, we will have a Luxton Technique Discussion about potential triggers at the table, so we can avoid triggering trauma and I can alter the story and outcomes as necessary. We will also have an open door policy and breaks after stressful decisions, so players can discuss and express their needs if something comes up during game. When sessions end, we will discuss Stars and Wishes in order to highlight things that brought us joy and ask for more of the same, and also engage in aftercare to discuss ways to deal with potentially-triggering content that came up during session.
