About the adventure
Descent Into Avernus: Hellriders Wanted Elturel has fallen. The shining holy city now hangs in the skies of Avernus, chained above a burning wasteland of devils, demons, war machines, soul coins, infernal bargains, and impossible choices. What began as a rookie assignment has become a desperate mission through Hell itself. The party has already survived the fall, uncovered dark truths, and crossed into the first layer of the Nine Hells. Now the campaign is deep in the Avernian wasteland, where infernal warlords rule the roads, devils offer power at terrible prices, demons tear through the battlefield, and the last hope of Elturel may lie hidden somewhere in the ashes of Zariel’s past. This is a great entry point for a new hero. Maybe you are a stranded survivor of Elturel. Maybe you are a Hellrider lost in Avernus. Maybe you are a Flaming Fist soldier, a scholar of forbidden lore, a prisoner of devils, a war machine scavenger, or a desperate soul looking for redemption. However you arrive, one thing is clear: Elturel is running out of time, and Hell needs heroes. The Adventure So Far The characters began as fresh recruits tied to the Hellriders, the Flaming Fist, or the Order of the Gauntlet. Their first mission should have been simple. It was not. What started in the Elturgard Woods spiraled into cult attacks, betrayal, bloodshed, and catastrophe. Then Elturel vanished from the Material Plane and was dragged into Avernus. Since then, the party has fought through horror, conspiracy, and infernal corruption to reach the burning plains of Hell. Now the story has shifted into high gear. The party is tearing across Avernus in a heavy-metal wasteland adventure full of spiked war machines, devil deals, demonic threats, fallen angels, lost memories, and the race to save an entire city before it is pulled into the River Styx forever. Who We’re Looking For Adventurers of all experience levels. New players are welcome, and veterans will find plenty to dig into. Team players. This campaign works best when the party supports each other, shares the spotlight, and makes bold choices together. Roleplay-friendly players. Your character’s beliefs, fears, loyalties, and temptations matter in Avernus. Players who like cinematic action. Expect war machines, infernal battlefields, desperate rescues, brutal enemies, and dramatic turning points. Heroes willing to face Hell. You do not have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to stand between Elturel and damnation. New Players Welcome Joining a campaign halfway through can feel intimidating, but I will help you build a character who fits the story, catch you up on what matters, and give your character a strong reason to be in Avernus. You can come in as a survivor, prisoner, rival, rescuer, mercenary, scholar, redeemed villain, Hellrider, planar traveler, or someone with unfinished business in Hell. Plenty of adventure left and we need another hero. You.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Well met, adventurers! I'm Avner, and whether you're brand new to tabletop role-playing or continuing a long journey, I'm thrilled to share a table with you. I started DMing 10 years ago when I got tired of waiting for someone else to run a D&D game and decided to learn how myself — and I've been immersed in the hobby ever since. In my three years on StartPlaying I've hosted over 300+ games and counting, and I've done my best to soak up every system I can get my hands on. My dice-rolling journey started with Warhammer Quest and HeroQuest, and these days I run and love 5e and the new 2024 D&D, Star Wars RPG, Pathfinder, Genesys, Cypher, World of Darkness, and many more. What ties them all together is the thing I care about most: players telling a shared story, with highs and lows that create memories lasting years. I've played in just about every format there is — dice around a kitchen table, across a camera, on Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds, and plenty of hard-fought play-by-post. If there's a way to play, I've probably tried it. What I bring to a table isn't just rules knowledge — it's a polished, immersive game with custom maps, atmospheric audio, written recaps so no one loses the thread, and a story we build together. I'd love the chance to bring that to you.

Creating your character
We will be starting with first level characters using the point by method. We will create our characters during session zero. Additional backgrounds will be available, including: Hellrider Order of the Gauntlet Flaming Fist
Come join the Adventure! We are currently on level 8 and could use a few more Heroes in Hell! We currently have a Oath of Vengeance Paladin, an Infernal Warlock, a College of Swords Bard, a giant barbarian, and an Arcane Trickster Rogue . All official classes and archetypes welcome! We are playing with a hybrid of the 2024 and 2014 rules using the updated rules when possible, but allowing all official materials. We are currently looking for one to two more players to join the group!

What Avner brings to the table
I will be running this adventure on Fantasy Grounds where I have an Ultimate subscription. I will also be using maps I purchased on Patreon to add to the immersion of the adventure. The adventure will include and additional module to the main adventure and I have purchased all content for both in Fantasy Grounds. I have many years of experience in the system and will leverage it to help any new players learn D&D and create a fun an exhilarating story told by the players.

How Avner creates a safe table
We shall be using Lines and Veils as well as the Open Door and Luxton technique to ensure everyone is comfortable with the content of the game. This game does take place in Hell so there is a certain amount of topics that include punishment, damnation, sin, ect but they will not be the focus of the adventure. Any scenes that are graphic in nature will occur off screen. I hope to keep a light comedic tone with this one in the flavor of Army of Darkness.
