About the adventure
The Cult of the Dragon rises. Welcome to Tyranny of Dragons, a classic 5th edition D&D adventure set in the Forgotten Realms. Chaos has erupted on the Sword Coast: for the first time in over a century, the Cult of the Dragon is emerging as a major, coordinated force. As factions scramble to respond, you stand against the rising tide: dragons, spy networks, and dark magics from the Unapproachable East stand against you. With your new allies, you will either rise together against this threat, or fall alone. Characters will face a diverse array of foes, from dragons to giants, bandits to terrifying archmagi, and will have to navigate political intrigue, subterfuge and deadly deception, and face a threat from Beyond. You will face exciting and challenging combat, dynamic role-playing through social encounters high and low, and perplexing puzzles, all in a high fantasy world of magic and mystery. This game is suitable for all players, from first time players to experienced gamers of yore: the module is no pushover and has challenges for everyone. This game will be set in 1489 DR, the Year of the Warrior Princess: existing lore will be featured, but background knowledge is not required (in fact, you may enjoy it more without prior deep FR knowledge!). We will discuss comfort levels and expectations prior to starting, and players are invited to build rapport using the tools we'll use to play the game: we're all in this together. Will you be enough to stand against the Tyranny of Dragons? THE STORY SO FAR: A group of ragtag adventures meet on a caravan for Greenest, where they find the village under fire from a dragon and bandits. Fighting off the attack, one of their own was slain, and they sought revenge by seeking out the bandit's base, confirming they are the Cult of the Dragon. Rescuing a new companion, they delved deeper into the Cult's hidden Dragon Hatchery and then followed the surviving cultists north on a caravan to Waterdeep on behalf of the Harpers and Order of the Gauntlet, hoping to find out why the Cult is acting the way they are. Once in Waterdeep, the party was beset by the Cult, who attacked a noble gala looking for something and killing the host. Following the black sect of the Cult's leader through a portal, they emerge into the Greypeak Mountains, uncertain if they are walking into a trap or preparing to get their revenge....

About me
"Camaraderie. Adventure. Steel-on-Steel. The stuff of legends, right Boo!?"-Minsc, Baldur's Gate Well hello there. My name's Greg. My journey into dorkdom began not with dice but with dial-up: I discovered Dungeons & Dragons through dedicated fan sites to Dragonlance, Ravenloft, and the Forgotten Realms, where artists like Jeff Easley and Clyde Caldwell enchanted my Pokemon-addled brain in the late '90's; not long after, a day playing Baldur's gate with a friend and diving into Salvatore's Cleric Quintet gave me an appreciation of lore and story in this game world of monsters and mayhem. I didn't roll my first dice until 3.5 was a fresh new thing, and no other hobby has even approached absorbing my interests as TTRPG does. Storytelling and fun are my primary concerns when I take the proverbial DM screen for a drive: I believe in fostering group connectivity, player investment in their own story and the stories of others, and a living, breathing world you want to get lost in. Whether it's the sprawling City of Doors, the misty Domains of Dread, or a world of my (and your) own making, atmosphere and action go hand-in-hand in how I approach each session. I love teaching new players, and I love experienced hands looking for a challenge. I believe in fostering a safe environment for every player to explore their character and themselves comfortably around others. With experience on my side and enjoyment a guarantee, what are you waiting for?

Creating your character
Character creation will take place during Session 0, but if you're jumping at the bit, you can begin early; brainstorming is encouraged. This list has been updated to be accurate as of October 2025, as our game has progressed. The mechanical lowdown: Stats: Standard Array, Point Buy, or Session 0 rolling Acceptable Character Options: WotC classes, subclasses, lineages/races, and backgrounds (non-Forgotten Realms sources on a case-by-case basis), non-WotC upon review and access; we use 2024 rules but allow 2014 content on a case-by-case basis Additional Options: Customized lineage/race, Backgrounds come with additional feats for all characters if not already provided Level and Experience: Level 9, on milestone advancement; optional and variant class features from Tasha's on a case-by-case basis Feats and Multiclassing: Wildly encouraged Pregen Characters: If you're new and want someone to make a character for you, I'm happy to provide Pre-generated options for you to pick from! A document for flavor and background will be provided before the game begins, helping you brainstorm the kind of character you're bringing into this world. Houserules will be discused therein.
New to the game? A veteran looking to sink your teeth in? We're welcoming to all player styles!

What Greg brings to the table
I bring 21+ years of experience playing TTRPGs, starting with 3.5 but including World of Darkness, Powered by the Apocalypse games, Pathfinder, multiple editions of D&D from 1e to 5e, FATE, and games like Fabula Ultima and Ryuutama. I am a dynamic DM, adjudicating the rules fairly with fun in mind. I know the systems I play with well, and I believe the Rule of Cool abides: the two stand in equal measure. Cinematic, descriptive DMing coupled with quick and practical movement through scenes is the name of the game. I use a variety of voices, ranging from silly to serious, and utilize music and ambience, never intrusive and with player input. I Kickstarted Roll20 and have a lifetime membership, and characters will be built on D&D Beyond using one of my campaigns, giving you access to most WotC content and a bit more from other publishers. Discord will be provided for banter, dank memes, and if desired, asynchronous role-play. A world journal/wiki will be provided for the game using Roll20 or the groups' preferred avenue, provided I am savvy enough to do it. This game will not be recorded. Voice is required, but not video. All player rolling will be done on Discord, D&D Beyond, or Roll20, per the preference of the party; DM rolling will be done in public if the party requires it, but the default is in private.

How Greg creates a safe table
Before we start, characters will be given a Consent checklist and from there we will establish best practice for everyone. Session 0 will involve going over the finer details of this, as well as character creation and introductory role-playing. Safety Cards can be shared publicly or DMed privately, and after each session, the game will check in, share stars and wishes/likes and wants, and issues will be resolved with respect to all parties. Content level will be decided during session 0, appropriate to each player. This game is LGBTQ-friendly and will tolerate no bigotry of any kind. In-game content will be discussed as a group, in advance. Topics such as character death will be handled privately with each player, first in Session 0 about their wishes regarding that and then as it comes up in-game.
