About the adventure

In this game the Lord of the 9 Hells has tricked someone that you know into giving up their soul. Now, you as an adventurer will restore their soul by going into hell and getting it back. You will have to go through each layer in order to seek out the prison their soul is being kept in but each layer is strange and alien. Post apocalyptic Mad Max style lands, environments composed completely of ancient hag carcass, completely frozen over lands where a floating iceberg throne watches all, and so many other weird dangerous layers of hell. Sessions are intended to be narrative driven with heavy input from players. Roleplay, combat, and travel are all significant aspects of each session. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to come in and learn the game.

About me

Hello! My name is Mxlpxl. I have been playing tabletop roleplaying games for over 11 years now and have found that I am extremely passionate when it comes to curating these experiences for people. My favorite thing to do is have people interact with a world and have it move and change with their actions while still being able to poke fun at ourselves. My experience in running tabletop roleplaying games are equal parts with adults and it has been for kids. Having to switch gears to a public school teacher in NYC, I've had the amazing opportunity to bring Tabletop Roleplaying games to classrooms across the five boroughs. For many of us, this is a fun way to spend our time being creative and hanging out with our friends. To my enrichment, it has also expanded my toolkit in the classroom to teach skills like reading, writing, arithmetic, socialization, and social emotional learning under the guise of fantasy roleplaying. Academic and social skills which are severely lacking in this fast paced digital world. During the Summer I enjoy running games at conventions, my favorite one being Gencon in Indianapolis and NYComicon at home. Even though these one shots are often short lived, it is so important to me that their first game is a memorable experience. (so many horror stories of bad experiences from people I've met over the years) It is my sincere belief that TTRPGs are a low stakes vehicle to access a healthy part of the human experience. An opportunity to hang out with friends, meet new people, have an even stage to pretend like an adult in a safe space, creatively use tools to solve problems, and just tell an awesome story. Everyone needs these things, and somehow TTRPGs wrap it all up in a single experience.

Character creation

Creating your character

(If any of the following seems intimidating I am happy to help build characters an hour before the start of any session) We kindly ask that characters are created either before sessions begin or select one of the pre-generated characters available at the time of the session in order for the game to start at the right time and maximize playtime. Stats are based on standard array and the beginning level is 14. The characters will be created on either D&D Beyond or Roll20. There are no restrictions to any characters created as long as it is published WOTC. Each character receives 2 magic items.

What Mxlpxl brings to the table

When you join a session there are a few things you can depend on. Each session is full of laughs while we are immersed in the world of the 9 hells. With music playing in the background either during exploration, role play, or combat I will be doing voices for the various characters you meet and using sound effects from our beloved sound board on Discord. Handouts for various images, important NPCs, tables, charts, will be in a digital journal for your easy access. Information is stored on both Roll20 and a private channel on Discord. I also prefer to avoid theater of the mind when possible with digital maps, graphics, tokens that represent your avatar, and more technology to make game play smoother so we can put the majority of our energy on telling the story. The Rules as Written are the basis that we play with and depending on if things would be cooler we negotiate at the table for varied rulings. Combat is exciting, meaningful, tactical, and above all else story driven/narratively significant. No random throwaway fights here!

Safety

How Mxlpxl creates a safe table

Before the game begins my priority is that everyone feels safe enough to have fun in this space. To that end we will have a brief conversation of the expectations that other players and myself have already stated. After that we will talk about what you are looking for in a game and what you do not want to see in a game in order for everyone to have a safe environment to play in.
