About the adventure

North of the Spine of the World and west of the towering Reghed Glacier is a frigid expanse few dare to explore, let alone inhabit. This icy land of windswept tundra recently became locked in a perpetual, dark winter without reprieve. Auril the Frostmaiden, the divine embodiment of winter’s fury, has withdrawn to this cold corner of the world to live among mortals. Further, she has cast a terrible spell over Icewind Dale, to the detriment of most of its denizens. Each night before midnight, Auril takes to the sky on the back of a white roc and weaves her spell, which manifests as a shimmering curtain of light—a beautiful aurora that illuminates the night sky and fades before dawn. This powerful magic prevents the next day’s sun from rising above the horizon, turning midday into twilight and trapping Icewind Dale in winter’s dark embrace, with no sunlight or warmth to melt the snow and ice. The mountain pass is barricaded with blizzards and the Sea of Moving Ice churns with blistering winds. Travelers are discouraged from approaching or leaving Icewind Dale, further isolating the region. Icewind Dale has thus been trapped in a different reality from the rest of the world, for though the sun never rises over the dale, it continues to rise everywhere else. They call it the Everlasting Rime. No one understands why the Frostmaiden has imposed her will in this way or why the other gods refuse to challenge her. This prolonged winter, which has gone on for more than two years, threatens to doom not just the flickering lights of civilization known as Ten-Towns but also the indigenous flora and fauna that need sunlight and the change of seasons to survive. This adventure is for individuals who enjoy tactical combat and aspects of wilderness survival in a freezing tundra and adventure. Backstories are optional but I love to incorporate PC backstories as much as I can along side the main narrative when appropriate.

About me

I am a seasoned and passionate Dungeon Master, ready to bring your tabletop gaming sessions to life. With a decade of experience crafting immersive narratives and challenging quests. I love Dark-Fantasy and Dark or Silly Humor, I do voices or describe how they speak and still remain in tone. My combat is tactical and dangerous so plans and preparation are important. The style of my worlds usually have a blend of fantasy/Sci-fi of varying degrees with cosmic horror sprinkled in. So gather your party, sharpen your blades, and let's embark!

I'd also tag Necrotic's games with Inclusive and World Builder if I could. He does an outstanding job taking the settings loosely described in modules and transforming them into living, vibrant worlds that are constantly adapting to the circumstances and player decisions. Easily the best storytelling and worldbuilding I've seen from a DM. Most importantly, he is very open minded and goes to great lengths to make sure everyone is having a good time, and it is an especially underrated yet valuable quality in a DM to make every player feel included and heard. Everything I could ask for, worth every penny.

Tim is a fantastic DM. He builds a really engaging world, balances roleplay and combat well, and keeps the sessions running smoothly without feeling rushed. His NPCs are fun and memorable, and he gives players lots of freedom to make creative choices. The sessions are always fun, well paced, and full of great moments. Highly recommend jumping into one of his games.

Highly recommend. We played Ice Wind Dale Weekly for a year - incredible experience. Had played for 5 years with friends and local, only playing in person with close friends is better than Tim. New bar set for virtual d&d.

Tim should be your go to DM for a campaign with your friends. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding the rules and campaigns he runs, is personable and has a great sense of humor. He let the rules slide a bit for some wicked cool scenes and was a good sport when a player outsmarted his tricky traps and challenges. (like casting Reduce) We played for an entire year and maintained a consistent weekly session and the campaign maintained a consistent drive both for the characters personally and for the main story. Tim really ensured our characters stories felt integral to the main plot and that our characters mattered. As a female player, I also felt as though Tim did a great job of ensuring it was a safe space and everyone was respectful at the table. It was very refreshing to have someone so professional, considerate and so great at his craft. I hope I will be able to play at Tim's table again for another campaign and will miss the weekly sessions dearly.

The use of sound, voices, voice modulation, VTT utilities, all done exceptionally well, and with the flexibility to run the style of campaigns that individual party's want. The experience was created and adjusted to the party's play style. Cool table rules and generally a cool dude.

Safety
How Necrotic GM (Tim) creates a safe table

Adventures in this setting can be Grimdark at times and can touch on sensitive subjects and it's important to make our boundaries clear, so that each of us can feel safe and relaxed. We will go over safety tools, and how the party will get together in Session 0, and at the end of each session we can discuss what went well and what should be improved. I will also send out a consent form in which you can let me know what content you don't wish to see in our games. This is a newbie-friendly game, I will help with the mechanical and rulebook-sides of the game, you just need to tell me what your character would like to do. 🎲
