Monster of the Week: Creatures in the Shadows

Monster of the Week: Creatures in the Shadows

Monster of the Week | Campaign

About the adventure

Ever wanted to be the big hero in a small town overwrought by monsters, demons, and their ilk? Now is your chance to be the Chosen ones, the Scoobies, the monster-fighting heroes...who may or may not get paid, depending on how much destruction is left behind in your wake as you defeat the baddies. Monster of the Week is a Powered by the Apocalypse system game with easy character builds and a focus on roleplay and storytelling.

Recruiting notes

We will start off the first session with character/world building and how your characters are connected. Discussion can happen beforehand in my Discord server as well! NOTE: I have a selection of MotW sessions that I've run as one-shots, so if you have played with me in the past, I will pick a different game to run! Feel free to sign up to any games that work for you and message me if you are a recurring MotW player. 😊 There will be no graphic gore in this game, as it is one of my lines, and will be at most fade to black.

Anya is the best GM I've played with, period. If you are lucky enough to be in her games prepare for fun, comedy and great story telling.

Anya was awesome! She led four inexperienced players through a holiday festival one-shot module that she'd written. She was super patient, enthusiastic, supportive, and willing to go wherever we wanted to go. An absolutely perfect Christmas gift, thank you Anya!

Anya made my first time playing an amazing, safe and fun experience! She took the time to answer questions, gives the opportunity to get creative, was very encouraging throughout, and made sure everyone was heard! Definitely would recommend and look forward to adventuring with her again¡

So, I did a one shot as a way to get back into DnD. Haven't played in almost 10 years. The one shot was really fun. Anya did not bog everyone down with rules. She only brought up rules as we got to them, like knowing when to roll for an attack and when to roll for damage. Also, the description of visuals of settings, people , and the monsters were great. It was a fun session and I have no problem recommending Anya as a Game Master to anyone.

Anya is a phenomenal game master who brings fantastic storytelling (amazing reveals!) and great characters to every session. Her ideas are creative, well set-up, and well thought out. She runs my favourite game with my favourite table. I love having Anya as a GM and will happily forgo other game masters in favour of her games! ^_^ She also is sure to be respectful and uses good safety tools. And she's very nice! <3

Anya is without a doubt one of the best GMs I’ve ever had at a table. She‘s so supportive of player creativity, allowing us to fully engage in the world building with her, and thus get completely immersed in the lives and experiences of our characters. She also makes a really safe space for us all to play in, making sure lines and veils are respected.

Additional details

How to prepare

Basic webcams and mics are perfectly fine! This isn't a streamed Actual Play, and the important thing is that we are able to see each other and understand one another. Basic understanding of the genre is of course helpful, but you don't need to be an expert in Monster of the Week by any means! That's what I'm here for. You are welcome to have your own physical dice to play with, or you can use virtual dice as well.

What I provide

I will bring a host of spooky monsters and weave a bizarre and fascinating world for your characters to explore.

Gameplay details

I will send out a copy of the form-fillable Lines & Veils PDF to all players prior to the game, and we will discuss these in session zero with names stripped away to be anonymous. There will be no graphic gore in this game, as it is one of my lines, and will be at most fade to black. If at any time a player needs to modify their Lines & Veils, they are absolutely welcome to message me privately and we will pivot/update that information accordingly. After the session, we will give a quick recap of how the session went and if there were any shifts in tone needed to ensure that all players have an enjoyable time.

How will character creation work

We will build characters prior to the session start time. It's a simple matter of choosing your character's playbook (essentially their archetype), ratings that modify rolls for moves, and moves you would like them to have for the game, which are all listed in the character playbooks.
