About the adventure

(Heroes have additional feat, magic item and high, server specific stat spread) *Play by post that wont fade away, active since Nov 2023* Battle your way through countless cultists and try to stop the return of Tiamat, the 5-headed evil dragon goddess. Tyranny of Dragons is both the Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure path, combined with the Rise of Tiamat adventure, and everything from those two books. This campaign will be a Play-by-Post (PbP - asynchronous) format, hosted on my Discord server. This means that you can post at your leisure, no annoying scheduling issues and the game is compatible with most devices, including pc, tablets or phones. I consistently respond to posts within 24 hours, making 1-3 daily contributions, and I hope for a similar level of commitment from players. Any deviations from this schedule will be communicated in advance, and these expectations can be adjusted based on player preferences.

Have been playing play by post games with Garry for a few months. He does really well with planning out the battles and giving players a lot of freedom. His homebrew worlds are very open-ended, and he does a great job looking at how to integrate your character's backstory into the game. He knows how to use all the tools really well with Avrae and with using battle maps. Look forward to more games with Garry!

Garry does a great job with Play-by-post! He keeps the game moving (which can be difficult in the format). His stories are unique and interesting and combat is rewarding (which is also difficult to pull off in this format.) I’ve played in Garry’s homebrew campaign for a year now and it’s been great! His descriptions of scenes are very detailed, and the fights are both well balanced yet challenging. He also allows a fair amount of non official game material so if you ever want to try Unearthed Arcana or anything similar to this, it’s a great campaign to go for. Garry is very approachable and quick to respond to any questions you may have. The pace of the game is set or limited by the players rather than him. I found his decisions always more than fair. I would highly recommend Garry and his campaigns - you’ll have a great time!

I have played a few Play by Post games in the past and know they can be tricky. Garry has mastered them. The pacing is steady, but never overwhelming. He is great at bringing new players in and making them feel like they belong immediately. Very much listens to player ideas and works with the player to help craft their place in the World. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a text based game!
Character creation
Creating your character
Characters will be discussed on the server during the "Session 0", which is essentially the time before we get started. They will start at current level in title. I have a modified dice roll system that allows for a better spread of stats. We can create them together or all be yourself, and backstory detail is up to the player.
The story so far; The party have driven the raiders, along with a dragon, away from Greenest. Infiltrated their camp for reconnaissance, and destroyed the dragon eggs they could find. Having hidden among the caravan, trying to avoid notice by the cultists, they followed a tunnel, cleared the castle of enemies and followed them through a portal ... will they succeed? Join us to help save Faerun. Please note this is Play By Post (PbP) D&D Asynchronous Play By Post campaign by text over discord server. Play is ongoing, session times are for charging purposes.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The only preparation required will be to join the discord server and get to know each other a bit, create characters on DnD Beyond and link them into the server. There is no requirement for any particular device as Beyond is on a browser and Discord is an application, so just an internet enabled device will suffice.
What Garry brings to the table
I am an excitable GM and ready to create a story and lead the adventure where you want to go. I will provide the hosted server access and link to resources on DnD Beyond, allowing access to most content. I maintain the bots, code and all the requirements to make the server function well and support the gameplay. I own the published versions, but may adapt and creatc my own maps, characters, story, world, npc and even some monsters. You, the player, please bring your creativity, RP skills, willingness to use discord/avrae and, above all, patience and commitment to playing in the PBP style.

How Garry creates a safe table
To ensure the safety and comfort of all players, I employ the following measures: 1. Before the main game begins, I hold a session zero via discord to discuss concerns and establish boundaries. 2. I utilise a safety checklist to ensure that all players are aware of potential triggers and sensitive topics. 3. During the game, I run personal channels private to that player and the GM, allowing players to communicate their comfort levels or any other issues. This campaign will be conducted as Asynchronous Play by Post, posting via text as and when you have time. We will use Discord for all communications, DND Beyond for character sheets and resources and the Avrae bot for dice rolling and combat. I use as much description in my text as possible to make the game as immersive as possible, while keeping short enough to be able to read in short bursts, which is the way for PBP. Organised Discord channels, linked to your DnD Beyond character makes for swifter progress in the story and prevents stagnation.
