About the adventure

Welcome to The Elyderwylde Academy-- your destination for International Mystical Arts! Based in New York City and tied to it's lunar cycle, this school spends half of the year Eclipsed in the Magical World. For 6 full moons The Academy is shrouded by a magical Shield that keeps them in the wizarding world, surrounded by fantastical folk creatures and the majestically mysterious macabre. To be a student here is to accept the danger that abides just outside campus. The monsters of the Emerald Forest who want nothing more than their next magical meal. But being a student here has its perks-- mostly the fostering of magical abilities, and the fun that comes along with growing up in a magical school whose main interest is seeing you bring your magic to the world! Your adventures will begin at your school. Find your home, make new friends, and jump into teenaged magical shenanigans of all shapes and forms. And of course, make sure you're paying attention to the Eclipse, otherwise your magical shenanigans will lead to hijinks around the city that never sleeps-- New York City! This adventure will include more dangerous elements, including dangerous monster battles, school rivalries, changing events, and more!

About me

Hey hi! My name is Lexi, otherwise known as @blackgirlmage on Twitter, Hive, and Twitch! I'm a Professional Game Master, streamer, writer, and storyteller who loves running homebrew games and modules with homebrew twists on them! I love improv with players and creating an exciting, unpredictable, and unforgettable games from the modules we all know and love! I love exploring the parts of TTRPG's that make me (and players most compatible with my playstyle) passionate! Such as roleplaying, combat, and character-focused campaigning, focused on taking the colonialism out of standard high fantasy adventure. If you want to play in games that take your character from the world they know and launch them into deep depths of story, from dramatic to absolutely comedic-- you'll want to join me!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters should be built at an Upperclass level. If we have a session 0 chat scheduled (whether through zoom or over discord), we will be creating the characters FOR the game, in conjunction with the other players at the table. I am a story-driven GM and therefore it is important to me that everyone is making characters in line with the vibes and ideas we bring to our chat. Our setting is a MODERN, New York City international school, set in NOW, where ALL racism/homophobia/transphobia/ableism/etc. is not present. There are magical classes to attend but no split up schools based on personality or "goodness". This school accepts students based on academic ability, personality, magical potential, community service, and heart. It costs nothing to attend and they give scholarships for books and other items, therefore the need for a classist/racist/misogynist/xenophobic character is null. Bring your most creative art student, your gothiest goth, your reformed bullies, your WiFi-obsessed nerds-- all are welcome! (If you have a character you want to re-use, please send me the idea ahead of time and I can determine whether or not the character can be brought to the table. I retain the ability to accept or reject this, but will work with you to accommodate any circumstances where a character doesn't fit.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Bring your webcam, a functional mic, and a quiet room to play in! Seeing each other is important for timing and roleplay, so we'll be utilizing our cameras for this campaign. A basic understanding of the Kids on Brooms system, an inspiring character concept, and your Discord/Zoom along with any number of d6's (physical/virtual) should get you far! Lastly, bring your excitement about the Magical School genre!

What Lexi brings to the table

I'll bring the safety tool talk, the maps, the descriptions and an intercultural world! I have the physical copies of Kids on Brooms, and will also have a world built out for you of potentially dangerous (but always intriguing) adventures that will await you!

Safety

How Lexi creates a safe table

Hello! As an improv-based GM I'm more than excited to play games with you, but firstly, we can't improv without knowing the boundaries of our fellow players! Longstanding campaigns will receive a free session 0, where we'll go over many things like introductions, player experience, things we want from the genre/game, and lines and veils. I use an anonymous Lines and Veils sheet to determine group Lines/Veils that we will carry throughout the game, and will present the usage of how X/N/O's will work while remotely! I also will present the usage of Rescripting, which gives you the power to rewrite any detail of your choices/my description if something comes up during the game, allowing for improvisational safety as the game goes on. I will read off the expected Content for the adventure and check against our lines and veils. After the game, I'll send out a Stars and Wishes form for each player to fill out!
