About the adventure

Set in the Sword Coast. The return of a family, long thought lost. The finding of a strange amulet that holds a key to secrets, darkness, and heartbreak. Whispers of something coming…of revolution…of war. After eons of being shunned into the depths of the Underdark for being feared and loathed, the drow, under the command of their great queen, decide enough is enough and that those that are above will learn what power lurks beneath their feet.

About me

Jen Leeman is the founder of The Jester’s Toybox, LLC, a company recently relaunched/rebranded to offer TTRPG content and services. A former disc-jockey, actor, and singer, Jen’s unique vocal acting talents bring that extra panache to your game table. They are also an avid writer of fiction, professional comic book and character artist, and cosplayer. They are on most of the social media channels and you can find them everywhere as @jennithejester. A storyteller at heart, Jen has gamemastered a vast number of campaigns for multiple genres and game systems since the early 80s. About half of the games they have run over the years are custom, where they became deft at adapting games to work with varied realms as well as genres, based on the players wants and needs. Presently, they are offering services for Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Vampire the Masquerade v5, Call of the Cthulhu, Blade Runner, Altered Carbon, Daggerheart, the new Candela Obscura, or even a new, custom game you create together! So come up to the table, take a seat, and enjoy the ride!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be within D&DBeyond and the DM will send a link to the game in order to create your character(s). Characters will be created pre-game and have a written background also required before the game session to be provided to the DM. This way your character and their backstory is folded into the overall larger arc of the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The Jester’s Toybox games offer the theatre of the mind, for the most part, so no need for physical minis, but we will utilize Roll20 from time to time for specific fights or sequences. What players will need is a Discord account, working webcam and mic, an Roll20 account, and a D&DBeyond player account in order to start. You are allowed to use your own dice and/or the digital dice as provided by D&DBeyond at your preference. Character sheet and stats will be tracked within D&DBeyond. Custom content is provided for by the DM within D&DBeyond for anything custom to the campaign overall. All D&D5e content is allowed to be added to the characters as well. Please discuss with your DM prior to gameplay for anything else you’d like to add custom to the game for your character.

What Jenni the Jester brings to the table

As your DM is also an artist, you will likely have illustrations of your character(s), poignant scenes from the campaign as time goes on, and full party illustrations appear. Additionally, maps will eventually be revealed for key areas as well as the Sword Coast, itself, for the players to enjoy!

Safety

How Jenni the Jester creates a safe table

At all times will the players feel safe and respected within gameplay. Prior consent forms will be sent to players to complete and return to DM in order to ensure no boundaries are breached. Additionally, if there is something that comes up as the campaign unfolds that has potential as a trigger, it will be discussed out of game with players in order to additionally ensure gameplay comfort. This is a long-play campaign with the intent to run a long while before the core goal is accomplished as it is a catastrophic, impending thing that is happening around the characters. Expectations for gameplay will include deeply immersive storytelling set within a high-fantasy setting, multiple NPCs that you may rely on as long-term party members, voice acting, cosplay, and a nice healthy mix of combat. This game is a custom creation of the dungeon master set within the Sword Coast. As with all games run by The Jester’s Toybox, a session survey will accompany each game session to highlight what the players liked, disliked, and would love to see in games to come in order to ensure on-going satisfaction and all around fun!
