About the adventure
The Wizard's Tower Brewery needs your help! Built next to the ruins of a wizard's tower, the brewery is renowned for its light, refreshing fruit beers. Unfortunately, a mysterious problem has shut down the brewery. Many of the innkeepers in the nearby countryside's villages have pooled their money to pay some adventurers to deal with the problem. You, brave heroes, have answered this call! Learn to play D&D 5e in this introductory-price Discord-based asynchronous play-by-post mini-campaign designed to teach the basics of the game. This game will likely last for two to four weeks, depending on what the players do, so it's not a major commitment if you're unsure about whether you'll like it. If you've never played before, this is a great way to learn at a comfortable pace, with a DM who has plenty of time to explain D&D 5e, how to use a virtual tabletop, and how to write evocative posts.

About me
I've been playing and GMing roleplaying games since I was in elementary school. I started with the D&D red-box Basic Set, and have diversified through a wide range of systems ever since. I enjoy narrativist story games but can also dive into mechanical crunch -- everything from Amber Diceless to Rolemaster. I've run numerous convention one-shots, and enjoy that kind of pick-up play with people I haven't met previously. I've also played and run text-based roleplaying games since the early days of the Internet. I'm new to the Startplaying.Games platform, though. Creating your character
You will create a 1st level character on D&D Beyond, and will be allowed to use any of the common sourcebooks. You will have the DM guidance's guidance if needed, and access to sourcebooks from the DM's Master Tier D&D Beyond subscription. You can discuss character backgrounds with the other party members if you'd like and the DM will guide building ties between the characters.
Ignore the session times, which are required by this site. "Sessions" are inapplicable to PbP, since the campaign is play-when-you-want. The game is FREE until we've gotten a party of four players and are ready to start the adventure; we'll craft backstories, build character sheets and such during this time. Session 1 will be (re)scheduled for the day the adventure actually starts; at that point, you will be charged $5, which covers the first week of pay. (Each subsequent "session" is a week of unlimited play, costing $5.) This is a text-based game. The DM will check in to respond to player posts, throughout their waking hours (which span the continental US time zones), and expects to normally post several times a day. If you respond quickly yourself, you may be able to have an ongoing almost-real-time interaction.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The game will be played on Discord. Every player will need to create a Discord account. While Discord can be used in a browser, players may want to install the Discord app on every device they intend to use for the game. Go to https://discord.com/ for more info. You'll need to sign up for a D&D Beyond account if you don't have one already: https://www.dndbeyond.com/create-account As the DM, I will guide you through everything. The Discord channels for the game will contain explanations of what you need to know, and I'll guide you through the mechanics of virtual play, which we'll do through D&D Beyond on Discord via the Avrae bot. You should bring your imagination, and you'll eventually want to choose a small square image of your character.

How Jammer creates a safe table
The game will be conducted through Discord-based asynchronous play-by-post, which means that all players will write texts on Discord describing their actions, and the DM will respond in text. A Discord bot called Avrae, linked to D&D Beyond, will be used for dice rolls; it will automatically track hit points, spells, conditions and so on. This game is suitable for all ages. You're encouraged to post at least once daily. The best part of a play-by-post game is that the campaign is open 12+ hours a day, but you can engage whenever you have time. This campaign should be fully playable from any device that supports Discord and a browser, including computers, mobile phones and tablets.
