About the adventure

Igna Catalgo’s death was sudden and unexpected - the old man didn’t leave you much to go on. Now you need to finish your last jobs to get paid and find out why and how his merchant empire is unraveling… Even you can feel the currents of magic churn chaotically in the Infinite Isles. The many small gods move as if in a stupor. Ambitious mages and warlords reach for the power left behind, fighting with each other for a stake in the weave of this part of the astral sea. The Isles shudder and strain in this struggle, and no one is unaffected. These times call on ordinary people to make heroic choices. Enter the Infinite Isles, an archipelago of gods and magic adrift in a magically vibrant corner of the astral sea. Anything is possible in this pocket of burbling aether. Are you native, drawn inexorably to Chantanom, the mercantile floating hub of the spiraling weave of power. Do you come by way of the rival Tasin, ruled from the hive of the benevolent mantis god-queen Senindara? Are you from any of the myriad of minor moonlets and islands, each home to their own small gods? Or maybe you hail from somewhere else, equally strange and magical. Any way, you are here to make something of yourself and see your destiny realized. The Infinite Isles is a homebrew campaign setting for D&D 5e based loosely on my interpretation of the astral sea from Spelljammer, resources from A Thousand Thousand Islands, many mythic and epic fantasy and science fiction influences and real life anthropology and archaeology.

About me

Tabletop roleplaying games are one of the constant threads weaving across my life. I've been playing since I was a very small child, both in games with peers and with adults around me. I grew up in a multi-generational game, a long-running story played by my father's friends and then the children of that group. I played in other games and systems through childhood, college and my entire adult life. I'm a professional actor, working on stage and screen, and I perform long-form comedy improv on a regular basis. I'm sure that it's tabletop roleplaying that sent me down this path - the love of play and storytelling touches everything I do. I bring genuine joy and excitement to the table. I have some old systems that I enjoy, and I love learning and running new systems. I'm excited to run a game for you. Please feel free to request something as well :)

Character creation

Creating your character

Session 0 is always necessary. During this session we will develop character ideas and backstory, and I will encourage you to send me some notes for your character’s backstory including desires, ambitions, and NPCs with close emotional hooks. I seek some connections between PCs at the start. In the custom world, you are invited to bring anything into it, and I will help it fit within the fiction. We will use D&D Beyond to record and manage characters. My happy place with character sheets is working on paper, but we'll use the digital tools to the best of our ability. I highly encourage dreaming up backstories with destiny, secrets, lost connections etc., and asking for weird stuff. I want your biggest and wildest dreams. I will ground it so it makes sense in the world we create together. I want to surprise and delight you with the twists and intrigue that they bring to the story. You can always message me about your character and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner.

The current party

Hi! I'd love to meet you if you're interested in joining us. I would run this game Thursday midday European time because those are my available hours :) Our first meeting is a Session 0 where we get to know each other, go over safety tools, the world lore and character options etc. We'll build as much of our characters there as possible, and collaboratively fill in interesting details about the world and backstory, and then Only two things would make me cancel a session - sick kid (I have a 2-year-old) or a local job (I'm a freelance actor & performer). In that case I would try to schedule a makeup session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have: - A desktop or laptop computer with a stable internet connection. - A reliable way to use Google Meet (test in your browser). - A working microphone. - A working webcam (optional, but appreciated). - A discord account (optional, but appreciated). - Dice, digital or real (I trust you to roll real dice). Once we complete character creation, please make sure you have an idea of your character's backstory and their capabilities. I am happy to support all of this along the way, but great if you have a handle on it. You do not need to know the rules very well though. I'll support with that as well, and you will learn over time :)

Safety

How Jacob Wolf Lefton creates a safe table

This is a game intended for seasoned roleplayers, but if you're new but willing to try it out, I am excited to support you. In another part of my life I teach acting and improv, so I got your back. D&D 5th edition experience is a plus but not a requirement! I will support your learning. ## STYLE ## I have a rules-loose and RP-heavy DM style. I am devoted to the idea that we keep a relatively grounded base reality - I’m more interested in normal people doing heroic things than superheros routinely doing the impossible. I run games that are very heavy on roleplay, leaning on my acting and improvisation skills. I encourage tight emotional ties for PCs and NPCs, and lots of intrigue. My games have combats - they tend to be larger and plot-grounded and take time to work through rather than small short encounters, but I can adjust based on what the group is interested in. I’m light on puzzles and dungeon crawls. The strength of my games is in the writing of multiple plots and arcs - all the PCs bring in one or two storylines plus one or two of my own that weave together to complicated and compliment each other. If you want to track details like calendar, economy, etc., yes please! I will work with you and we will find an efficient way to do it. I like a little crunch in my games! ## SAFETY ## I work to make sure my tables are friendly and welcoming for LGBTQ+ folks, safe for BIPOC, and open to all genders. I encourage exploring how we can represent the world to better support players and still get to the core conflicts we want to play through. You can always talk with me about questions, concerns or desires at the table and I will take them seriously and try to support a comfortable, fun and fulfilling place for you.
