About the adventure

Your journey begins as you are sent from the Holy City of Elturel to take down a group of Dragon Cultists in the Elturguard Woods. However, what awaits you as you come back is beyond your wildest nightmares. Finding yourselves amongst a stream of refugees headed for Baldur's Gate, it falls to you to find out what has happened. This is bound to take you on an extremely dangerous quest, down to hell itself. In this adventure, you will face the perils of Avernus, the First Layer of the Nine Hells, as you attempt to save the fallen city of Elturel from eternal damnation. The Blood War, the apocalyptic struggle between Demons and Devils, is raging all around you and you will have to make some tough decisions on your quest. Will you ally yourselves with devils, through your lot in with some demon lord, or perhaps even invoke the terrible powers of Tiamat, the Queen of Dragons? The choice is yours!

About me

Welcome, one and all! Are you new to Dungeons & Dragons and looking for your first game, or are you a forever DM dying to try out one of your epic characters, or are you an experienced player looking for your next adventure? Well, you've come to the right place! In addition to my scheduled games, I offer to run custom one-shots and campaigns based on your requests! I run games both online and locally in the Netherlands, in the Amsterdam/The Hague/Rotterdam area. I am a huge DnD nerd and I love stories and storytelling in all shapes and forms, especially in a fantasy setting! Immersing yourself in an epic journey together with others is hugely rewarding and can create strong memories for life. I see DMing as an art form where you get the chance to tailor-make a unique adventure for each group and player. A huge responsibility, but one that I take on wholeheartedly!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters start at level 1 and should be created on D&DBeyond. This makes it much easier for me to help everyone with questions and to handle absent players' PCs. You may use what official content you own on D&DBeyond to create your character. Any homebrew ideas need to be brought up with me on a case-to-case basis. An individual session 0 of up to 1 hour is provided (even encouraged!) before the first session for free. I do provide some pre-generated characters (using only the Basic Rules) to choose from for anyone who hasn't created a character before the start of the game. We will not spend time creating characters during sessions, so you may either bring your own finished character or use a pre-generated one. In case of character death, a player may create a new character at the current level of the party following the guidelines in the document "Stenhammar Rules and Clarifications"* *I have compiled a document of 3 pages where you can find all my rulings concerning character creation, resurrection rules, some rules clarifications, and some minor homebrew changes (e.g. drink a potion is a bonus action. Nothing major). It is not at all a requirement to know this document, just know that it serves as a guideline for how I make my rulings. You can find it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OPs4K8aifu40wjyCUkiubHUV5McZKfw5/view?usp=sharing

The current party

Every Tuesday, currently at level 3. Party composition: druid, bard, paladin, warmage (from Valda's Spire of Secrets)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I am happy to guide new players through the ropes and teach them the rules as we go along and will do my best to challenge each player on their own terms! Audio/Video: Discord channel (a working webcam and mic are necessary) Ambiance/Music: Shared via Owlbear.Rodeo Maps: A mix between Owlbear and TaleSpire. Basically, any major encounters that can be prepared will have TaleSpire maps and any minor impromptu skirmishes will be played on Owlbear. I have found that this makes for the best use of game-time. Note: TaleSpire is an Early Access game on Steam. It costs around 20$ (although the price may vary depending on your location). It is not necessary to own the game as I will be streaming it. However, if you would like to have control over your own character mini and your own camera angles I highly recommend buying it.

What Stenhammar brings to the table

I will bring a good mood, an immersive world, tough choices, challenging encounters, and a helping hand along the way! Also, great maps and music :)

Safety

How Stenhammar creates a safe table

I believe in player-driven games where actions and choices matter. We may explore tropes such as ideologies and faith, love and loss, loyalty and betrayal, essentially, what makes us human. This is accomplished within a fantasy framework. Folklore and superstition serve as a source of inspiration. Death and violence will occur but is never a goal in itself. Romance is allowed, but any sexual references should be kept to a minimum and may be censored. Any additional topics that a player feels uncomfortable with will also be respectfully avoided. Additionally, as this adventure plays out partly in the Nine Hells, it will contain a lot of violent and perhaps disturbing imagery. Your characters will be faced with horrors and questionable moral dilemmas. But this is all there to serve the greater narrative and to create a strongly immersive experience. It is important for me that every player feels comfortable and that even if your characters experience these things, you as players have a great time at the table! We will make sure to respect the Lines & Veils, and at any point you may come to me if something is particularly bothering you. But keep in mind that this module is not quite family-friendly. If that is what you are looking for, then I will happily recommend any of my other games! Such as Dragon of Icespire Peak: https://startplaying.games/adventure/61f5baa3d37451e18221118d
