I joined Justin for a one-shot with one other player. Since neither of us had a front-line character, he added an NPC to help out. He didn't want use to have to change our builds to make the party work. We've all seen NPCs supporting the party become a problem but that was not the case here. We had an NPC tank who did just as much as was needed. In the scenario, we had the agency to fight or negotiate with the dungeon denizens we encountered, allowing more than a simple combat slog. When it started to get late and we were only half way through the dungeon, he had the flexibility to let us schedule a second session to continue. All around a fun game so far and that's what it's all about.
Alex was well-prepared, walked us through character creation with patience and clear explanations, and led us right into a well designed adventure. His calm, patient manner and willingness to stop and explain things continued throughout the session. The adventure itself was a dungeon with a small number of rooms. Fights progressed from easy to harder and there was a puzzle to find and solve. Overall, a fun game and great intro (or re-intro for me) to D&D.
