About me
Like many in my generation, I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons through the Saturday morning cartoon (watching it is still a guilty pleasure). I begged my mom for a couple of quarters to buy the boxed set at a rummage sale, had my little brothers roll up characters, and the rest is history or something like it. Had I been more enlightened at the time, I'd have probably tried to talk my sister into rolling up a character, too. Like many in the '80s, my parents watched "the" 60 Minutes episode and my role playing activities had to continue under the radar for a few years. Happy side effects, my little brother and I became partners in crime and grew very close during this stretch, though he still claims that I unfairly targeted and killed off his characters (perish the thought!). I am currently a full-time educator (history/social studies/sometimes French) and a former professional writer (journalism/lots of ghostwritten material/one published novel that's still bouncing around out there with my name on the cover). In my spare time, I like to write (mostly poetry nowadays), create worlds, and play role-playing games. Occasionally, I also bang the drums. My games are largely character-driven. For the players, that means I love to work your backstory in when I can and that I encourage heavy role play. For the adventure, that means you will encounter creatures whose personalities, goals, dreams, desires, and flaws are as much a part of the experience as the hit points and treasure that you will likely deprive them of. While I certainly welcome parties that stay together, I approach my campaigns in more of a West Marches style, and have since long before I knew to call it that. The party you adventure with may change from adventure to adventure. Adventures are episodic while still having an impact on the larger campaign world. Don't be surprised when your character's exploits become known to others before you adventure with them. In addition to D&D, I have played and GM'd Boot Hill, Star Frontiers, and a handful of superhero games. I look forward to meeting you, on one side of the table or the other.

Marie does a fantastic job of balancing her role as storyteller and French teacher and manages to do a very good job of both. Having tried to do this myself with the a group of students I went to French immersion with, I have some appreciation of just how difficult it is to wear both of those hats at the same time. Marie manages it seamlessly. In addition to teaching, her main strength is bringing NPCs, whether they be friend or foe, to life. And since, in roleplaying as in fiction writing, "fiction is folks," this does a great deal to create an engaging story. If you get a chance to get in her game do so.
Bob is an excellent DM/GM who runs a challenging and satisfying game. I prefer to DM myself and, because of that, I don't play in many other people's games. Bob is one of the few DMs whose games I seek out and love playing in as a player. he does an excellent job of setting the stage and his adventures never fail to be frustrating in all the best ways.
