About me

I've only played D&D live twice in my life: once when I was about 12, and again when I was around 21...I can now add my first StartPlaying run just the other day. I'm 46 now, so it's been some time. I have played a few D&D-style video games in the past, but to re-familiarize myself with the rules, I've programmed ChatGPT to run as a DM, feeding it sourcebooks, rules, and character sheets, and have been running a solo campaign for a few days (I might say successfully). I am now familiar with D&D Beyond and the D&D Beyond VTT Map system. I've also checked out Roll20, but I'm more familiar with the D&D Beyond system since I've purchased several books. I mainly like to do Forgotten Realms (Faerûn) as that's the lore I'm most familiar with.

Zed is a great DM. He communicates well with his players, lets them build their characters, and plays to their strengths. He strikes a good balance between the rule of cool and homebrew items, and he lets each character have their spotlight. Knows how to throw challenging situations at the players on a whim, but is also capable of switching gears to the group's (sometimes wild and crazy) plans and just letting everyone see what happens.

I believe that being a DM is both an art and a skill, full stop. Some can be taught it, but not everyone possess it innately, I believe Johnathan possess it. He was very welcoming to a very new player coming into a campaign half-way through. I emailed him about possibly joining perhaps an hour or hour and a half before the campaign start time, he replied almost instantly walking me through what I would need to set up and helping me bring my character into the story. He's inviting, knows Dungeons & Dragons well, and most importantly you can tell has a true passion for the art of story telling and a love of D&D in general. I plan to go through with the entire campaign and now after the kids are put to bed, I have something entertaining to do on Friday nights with a group of like-minded individuals. Venture Forth!
