About me
Hey! Call me Toa (Toe-uh). If you don't know what that is, don't worry about it. It's from a series that Lego ran 2001-2010, and is a big inspiration for the things I like to look for in my fantasy adventures. I've been playing D&D since 2012, and 5e since 2017. I'm played several characters through multiple campaign, and even ran my own homebrew for some 3 years. Some of my favorite series besides Bionicle are the Hobbit (more of a fun, light-hearted adventure than the War of the Ring trilogy), Playstation's Horizon series, and the mid-2000s anime Gurren Lagann. It's my belief that every fantasy setting should be post apocalyptic world, clinging to the relics of a forgotten more advanced civilization, begging the question: who were they? What happened to them? Will whatever destroyed them come for us, and if so, how do we stop it? My favorite part of a fantasy story is balancing the problems the current society faces, while also delving into those ancient ruins that provide hints at the civilization that came before. Gameplay-wise, I prefer more guided stories with a "main plot" plus optional "side plots" more than I do open-world sandbox style games. Freedom to explore is fun, but I like having some direction. In-game I like to treat every situation like a problem to be solved, analyzing possible solutions or courses of actions, and presenting the rest of the party the pros and cons of my sometimes-unorthodox solutions. I like playing martial characters that are decently tanky and have just a sprinkle of utility spellcasting, as this encourages me to use my limited toolbox in creative ways. I have a bad habit of never playing a character as a single class all the way to the end of a campaign, my characters always end up with exactly 1 multiclass. I usually build a character around a fun and unorthodox flavor or gimmick, then go overboard minmaxing around that. My roleplay is a bit shaky, but I do my best. Talking isn't something I'm super good at, but I enjoy listening to the interactions of others, doing my best to chime in when I have something to say. I'm a visual person, talking and listening can sometimes be difficult for me, so I always prefer to have a visual battlemap that I can look at rather than a Theater-of-the-Mind style of play. There are times when background music can get me overstimulated while I'm trying to listen to or talk to others, and so I may have to ask to have it turned down. I'm male-presenting in my everyday IRL life, but when I game I like to take a break from the restrictiveness of that role and express my less masculine side by playing feminine characters. I like to immerse myself in my character, trying to express my own personality through the filter of what kind of person they are, and what I think would be useful rather than disruptive. I'll create my character with a certain personality in mind, but wait to set it in stone until I'm a couple sessions in and have gotten a feel for how they play, and how I want them to play.
