I played at Mythcal Miller's virtual table for a Intro to Daggerheart One-Shot here through start playing and it was GREAT. I had no idea learning a new system with plenty of differences could be so easy, informative and fun. MM ran a great game - making sure everyone got down character creation, quickly got us all linked up to play, and then right into the adventure. It didn't feel like a tutorial because he did a great job of interjecting explanations as they organically arose. MM was very adept at "moving the spotlight" quickly and naturally to ensure everyone had a good time in a short amount of time. I would jump at the chance to play at Mythcal Miller's table again in the future.
I found Frae just through looking for games on startplaying - presumably the same position whoever is reading this review is in. Headline: Frae is absolutely a GM worth playing with. Here are some specific examples of what he does so well - Because I was joining an existing campaign, Frae spent hours in the week leading up to my first session to help me craft a character that would have a seamless and logical introduction into the party and campaign. - Frae meets the player where they are at - if you want to write a novel of background, Frae's going to read it and judiciously find ways to incorporate it without derailing the overall campaign. If you want to go hit things, Frae crafts encounters that are satisfying to do so. - Coming into Frae's game as a newer DnD player, Frae was a phenomenal teacher on both the intricacies of DnD mechanics but also how to really get comfortable with the VTT. At the same time, he didn't let my newness bog down the table and pace of the game for the group. - Genuinely interested in feedback - not just "what don't you like" but also "what DO you like, what do you want to see more of" If you're considering playing with Frae, it's absolutely worth giving him a try. Regardless of your style of play, I am confident you will enjoy playing at Frae's table.
As a new player, Ryan ran a phenomenal one-shot that was a great way to jump in to playing online. At the same time, he also fully accommodated the players with more experience in a way that felt seamless and kept everyone having fun. His experience as an improvisor shined through as he kept adapting things on the fly to match the energy and goals of the group. You won't regret signing up for one of Ryan's games. He set a friendly and welcoming tone all while keeping the pace of things moving. Ryan also did a great job of making sure we were well prepared to start by providing clear and easy instructions on character creation, VTT usage, etc. I will happily sign up to play one of Ryan's games again.
