Really fun DM. Especially for $5, I suggest tipping. I'd easily pay $15/session. I've played for 3 sessions of Shadowdark so far. The game itself is very brutal, more so than is normally to my liking but we were able to get a lot of loot this session and upgrade gear quite a bit so hopefully we are prepared for the next brutal adventure. Carousing is easily my least favorite part of Shadowdark (not on the GM, it's the rules). You spend money to gain XP but you have a chance of losing a percentage of your total net worth, not even your total gold but the total value of goods you have on you (I don't think the DM even applied that rule in these games thankfully), it leaves you feeling pretty down after a session to spend money to just lose more. Carousing is something I would probably avoid until we have enough money to get at least a +4 to the roll to (maybe) not have negative side effects. Another brutal thing is that it is very easy to die and it resets your XP you've gained (generate a new character). I'm not sure if it's a problem yet but if people start having level gaps it could make some people feel too weak to join, luckily I rolled pretty well on a new character though.
