In all my time playing D&D I have never had a more engaging dungeon master. Gene takes the time to be over prepared for his sessions and still manages to be unbelievably flexible for player shenanigans. This makes for an organized, fast paced, and exciting session thats a great mix of combat and social interactions with memorable characters/monsters. We have countless funny moments when Gene goes above and beyond just making a funny NPC voice but will instead create a distinct personality for an NPC or bad guy. This is the flavor I often find missing in other DMs. Our reoccurring characters are consistent in their motives… and goofy accents. I always appreciate this. I also love how our campaigns are never stuck on a “railroad”. Our world is constantly changing based on our characters actions. Goals will sometimes shift based on what our party is able to do… or not do. It makes our world feel alive and open. We also have serious moments at Gene’s table where the party might discuss subtle political intrigue, plan an elaborate heist, or question the morality of our own actions. I would describe Genes DM style as inclusive. He gets to know his players and their characters often tailoring challenges, enemies, and loot to our interests or preferences. This gets everyone at the table invested in the campaign and coming back for more. Nearly all my favorite table top memories have been with Gene as the DM. I consider myself lucky to be apart of his games and revel in his many talents.
