Reviews I've given (4)
I've been meaning to leave a review for Somnus for ages -- in short, they are excellent. A very game DM, extremely present, flexible, and inviting. At this point I've played both tactical games with them, like Pathfinder and Draw Steel, and more freeform games like Public Access, and they're really proficient and joyful at each. In terms of things that differentiate them from other DMs I played with -- they're very strong at voicework. They're also the most technically skilled DM I've played with, with a full suite of toys from music, to voice augmentation, to visual novel tools. I'm a big proponent of real life play -- there's really nothing like sitting around the table with your friends -- but Sonmus makes a real strong case for online play. You should give them a try!
I wasn't sure what to expect -- joining a campaign at level 5 that was well underway -- but my experience with Joe has been great. He's been incredibly accomadating as I start into a character whose mechanics I'm still learning -- but most of all, it's been hugely fun. I gave him a brief character bio of "Witch/Lawyer" and he's helped flesh that out into a spellcaster that casts shield with a dense wall of legal warnings, blindness as a EULA text that "pops-up" in your field-of-vision where you have to click "I Agree" thirty times until you can see again, and can, naturally, summon creatures with a legal summons. This is all to say that Joe's a flavorful DM who can work character and story into the even dungeon-iest of dungeons. A great combination of mechanics, wit, and joyful foolishness. Come join our cult!
I know the culture here means five stars reviews everywhere — so I want to be extra clear: Brayden really is a superlative DM. He does an amazing job of balancing role play and combat — even in dungeons — and goes out his way to make sure each player is included. He’s like Mrs. Dalloway, but with dice. If you’re thinking about giving him a chance, go for it. It’ll be the fastest three hours of your week.
