Just Wow! I mean yesterday I played the most immersive tabletop RPG session in my whole lifetime! I have played yet two times in Roll20 with Archimedes and currently everything seems to be too great to be true! It's like I can't believe this is actually happening! Why he is so good? 1. HE IS NOT RAILROADING! I mean you can do anything during his sessions! There isn't like, oh, you can't go there because of X or Y. You do whatever you wish and deal with the consequences! Like in a real life! This is how it should be! 2. His can create immersive, rich and yet consistent game worlds. I specifically liked the fact that he "casts" maps of different sizes and types from his pockets to match whatever need there is. He can run battles in these maps and he doesn't stick with minor inconveniences or isn't afraid to play these maps while something could yet be missing - so game is very smooth. High quantity of maps and battle maps helps you to have great understanding what's actually going on and the the immersion turns almost a perfect experience when summed up with his great story telling and freedom of choice. 3. Realism. I mean for sure these are fantasy settings but you can make unbelievable fantasy settings or believable ones. Archimedes makes the latter. Every character have their motivations and the characters are acting on them. If there is an enemy who takes you down, it's not teleporting there out of nowhere to kill you just for fun. If he teleports where you are, there really has to be a reason for that and he should have obtained ways to locate your position with some logical ways. So, be careful with whom you mess up in the game. But this is how it should go! 4. Psychological safety - he is very warm and friendly and seems to be very fair.
In my opinion, Martin is currently the second-best game master I've played with! There is this one little thing, which one might overlook, but it actually defines how you feel playing with a GM: Psychological safety. Yes, Martin is a freaking safe and stable person! It’s like you never have to fear anything during his games. This single quality makes playing with him so satisfying! To mention something specific about the games themselves, he offered us a freaking 3D battlemap! I mean, really, how can you ever offer such immersive experience? If you have the CPU performance to run it, it's amazing. (Even if you didn’t, you could still see what's happening through screen share.) When it comes to other matters like storytelling, rules, and pacing, he does well, but these two qualities made him stand out from the crowd for me. Great work Martin, keep going!
Today I played the best DnD session ever, and it was even the best game session in any game I have ever had. Basically the GM's flexibility and desire to understand the needs of a player (in this case me), he served me an open world game where I was playing level 5 alone in a world without any battle balancing (as I wished). The game just turned out amazing as I was playing a shapeshifter spy shadow sorcerer, the things that happened in the game were just so memorable while felt very realistic. While the game happened in dungeons (which is an enviroment I almost hate), it still turned out amazing as my movements and actions were not controlled or railroaded at all.
