Joseph finds an amazing balance between rules-heavy, crunchy gameplay and player creativity/rule of cool style play that is very unique. He lead me and a small group of relatively young players (all having just wrapped up our first, year-long campaign) into a high level mini-campaign, and from this experience I can't recommend him enough as a DM. He managed to guide us through high level character creation in a way that made the whole process feel simple and straightforward while demonstrating clear fluency with specific rules that would allow or complicate our wildest character ideas taking shape. In combat, his style is very much rules crunchy, with a bias towards rule of cool when and if the players have dope ideas. Highly recommend Joseph for both experienced players seeking challenging encounters and new players looking to expose themselves to a more rule-focused style without the pressure of having to be highly literate in the rules yourself.
Joel has lead me from being a brand new player to now almost a year into our campaign. His ability to guide new players through at their pace while keeping the game moving and allowing more experienced players to feel challenged is second to none. The more I learned the game, the more Joel has set challenges in front of me to push myself as a player, both RP and combat-wise. During combat I as a player can almost always tell that Joel is taking great care to balance between creating challenges for players following rules as written and giving grace in places where the player might have made a different decision given the most likely outcome. His priority always seems to be serving the greater narrative, but he always allows the dice to tell the story. My favorite line from Joel is when he points out at the top of combat the "potential for TPK", giving us players a fair warning that it's time to lock in. Joel's games incorporate a healthy balance of interesting RP and world building as well as challenging combat. He takes care to make the world not feel black and white and highlights the nuances of the decisions that you make as a player and how they influence the world and the people in it. In almost every scene featuring more than one NPC he excels at RPing the differences in their personalities and how they interact with your PCs. The most exemplary scene I can highlight to represent Joel's play style is one where my party had assembled a counsel of NPCs to vote on a major decision, and each NPC's vote was clearly influenced by their experiences both with and without the party, with the last tie-breaking vote genuinely shocking me as a player and my other party members. In summary I can't recommend Joel strongly enough for both new and experienced players seeking a balanced combat/RP experience in a world that feels lived-in and where the players' decisions have significant effects on the story as it evolves.
As a new player, Davey was the GM on one of the first games I joined and I have been a regular in his one shots ever since. He takes great care to make his games extremely immersive, inclusive, and accessible to all players at the table. His voice acting is unmatched and complimented by the audio and visual aids he provides for gameplay. Would absolutely recommend him as a GM for both new and experienced players.
My session with Kevin was my first time ever playing D&D. As a brand new player Kevin was an amazing first GM to have. His voices and storytelling ability as well as the audio and visual aids he brought to the table made for an amazingly engaging first experience. I was playing with two much more experienced players and Kevin did a wonderful job of keeping the story and gameplay moving at a brisk pace, keeping it engaging while also taking moments to explain things to me as the new player at the table. I had such a wonderful experience for my first time and Kevin’s GMing only added to my desire to dive deeper into this hobby.
