Prepared, knowledgeable, and balances fun and mechanics well. Our group had a challenging composition for the game we played and he didn't miss a beat. It was my first time with the system and I never felt like I didn't know what I could do.

My impression of this game is that they didn't think they were going to have to run it and just dropped the ball when it came to being prepared for it. Here's why I think this is the case: - Didn't receive any links by DM. It was past start time before we eventually had to hit them up to get into the game. - I'm confident the setting was mostly improvised and therefore not immersive. The information we asked for was not readily available and in a one-shot, especially at $15 a person, it should be. - World was needlessly difficult to navigate. We were more worried about getting around than we were about forwarding the plot. - Chose poor actions to require a roll. We rolled to read a piece of paper. It wasn't in another language, it wasn't any information we were trying to piece together, it was just to read the words written on the paper. - Repeating rolls for things the DM just wanted to happen. Rolls should have consequences for success or failure. If they really wanted something to happen and are going to force people to roll all the time trying to force it, why not just say it happens? - No explanation was given post-game to reveal the paths and plot we missed by taking the actions we did. In summary, if you're going to run a game for $15 a player it should at least feel like there was an effort made to prepare something.

(Participated as part of a free session, run in dnd 5e)Incredibly competent about the rules and very patient with players of limited experience. Was prepared, took account of the players builds, and provided a good balance of tension and levity as our group failed and succeeded. Whatever he's charging is worth it, especially if you're new or apprehensive about approaching 5e.
