DM Joseph is brilliant! He is very invested in his tables during and outside of gametime. I love how he fosters such great community in his Discord as well as in gameplay. He really ensures that players get their times to shine and does a phenomenal time at managing the spotlight. This is huge for me, personally. He actively searches for ways to include everyone at the table, so when he gives you a lead, take the bait!! Also, don’t be afraid to ask for a specific story-related push in whatever direction you want your character to grow. There are many sessions that are primarily roleplay, giving our characters to develop relationships with one another and the world/NPCs around us. I have had such a great time compiling all the random bits of lore that he drops during gameplay, especially all of the growth/development in the timeline. Every sesh has some forward momentum, in the either story progression, or specific characters’ progression. His Riftwall game has a great balance between dungeon crawling, battling, puzzles, NPC and story motivated growth. Give him a chance and say hello to the Discord!

Mack is a wonderful human being and runs a very personalized game (speaking to their PbP games). Their server gives you the option to have your story public or private. I genuinely enjoyed watching other people’s stories unfold as they traversed through the world Mack created for them. So I recommend being public with your game!! Mack’s table feels like a conversation between two friends going through an adventure of your choosing. They are quick to respond and give you all the natural prompts a DM gives for a slow burn as you discover clues to whatever mystery your character is unraveling. They are not only interested in your character’s story, but they love giving prompts! Don’t be afraid to ask Mack questions as you go along, they are one of the most receptive and easy-going DMs I have ever shared a table with. Give it a shot!

I am absolutely LOVING the PbP Bloodscale homebrew that Cid runs. I wasn’t sure what to expect jumping into an established text-based game, my experience has been virtual and in-person table top. I decided to give it a shot and I have found myself enjoying this more than most of my VTT experiences! After two months of gameplay, I can honestly say this game has been the highlight of most of my days. Cid posts responses pretty much once a day Monday through Friday, keeping the world alive and moving at a steady, exciting pace. Reading through other active threads (and their ripple effects) is a ton-o-fun. It is obvious he puts a lot of care and effort into making the world feel real and keep the story engaging. Cid has far exceeded my expectations in this regard and honestly, it keeps me very interested in exploring what he crafts. The vibe of Bloodscale is spot-on the eldritch horror theme. Equal parts thrilling and unsettling. I am constantly at the edge of my seat worried about at least one (if not all) of our character meeting a grisly end. Cid does a fantastic job creating ambiance through environmental description, sometimes my skin crawls after reading some of the stuff we come up with lol It is a LOT of reading, which for me is part of the fun. I like digging through older threads for context as well as understanding the bigger picture by just randomly exploring other posts. If you enjoy the idea of deep character development through a text-based RPG, where the rules are more about creating an interesting, on-theme storyline, Cid’s games are the way to go. Give it a try and say hi if you join Bloodscale!

David is an energetic, excited, and incredibly knowledgeable GM. I have been consistently amazed by his ability to produce random bits of information regarding spells, items, RAW, characters, lore, etc. so quickly. Whenever we have a question about something or bring up a random idea, David is prepared with a card of information to throw on the screen. I joined his Chains of Asmodeus campaign mid-way through as their fourth party member. It is a high-level campaign and I was able to bring a character I built from level 1 to level 11 into his world where they were at level 15. David was great at integrating my character’s backstory into this campaign so that it made sense, but also felt authentic to both THE story and MY story. Some context, this module requires a soul of sorts to be captured somewhere in the layers of hell that the character wants/needs to save. Watching the other characters and my character traverse the layers searching for their person was a fun bit of personalization. When it comes to storytelling in general, David has utilized a number of NPCs to help move the story along, but also create a world to play and fight through. Being that this is a high level campaign, the CR for our battles are incredibly high and David provides fun challenges for us to overcome. Highly recommend checking out his table as David has a TON to offer!

I love everything about Morgan and his style of GMing. He has a great way of engaging with each player, making moments feel meaningful (or just downright silly), moving the story along, and appropriately challenging/punishing/rewarding PC actions/inactions. Morgan is ENGAGING with each of the players at his table. I joined Rime’s about 1 third of the way through the adventure and he helped me understand where the group was at and really encouraged me during the character building session we did. I am very flexible in what type of character I play and after learning what the current party composition was at that time, we crafted a solid supplemental character for the group with a unique backstory and connection to the larger picture. He even made it so my character had a direct link to an NPC in the game so that I could ground the identity of my PC. Morgan is FUN/FUNNY! We have one person at our table who is the hijinx queen and loves to do random, off-the-wall stuff and Morgan finds ways to incorporate her actions into the story (and the appropriate follow-up consequences!) in a way that does not overshadow the other players. I know I appreciate the more comedy aspects of D&D, so I personally love the hijnx, but we as a party tend to lean into it as a cohort and Morgan does a great job of keeping us on task, but allowing us to be silly. Morgan is great at PACING. Every single session we have is incredibly well-balanced in terms story progression and character backstory development. He makes it a point to really get each of us involved and develop a piece of our PC. Morgan is CREATIVE and adds so much personality into the NPCs. He picks a bit for the NPC and really drives it home, committing to the voice and the personality. The majority of his NPCs have a goofy demeanor, but I think that is because we are not a very serious table. The few times when Rime’s got a little dark/scary, he did a great job at setting the tone and really leaned into those NPC personalities. I bet if we were a very serious table that wanted a darker version of Rime’s, he would be able to channel that more broadly into the environment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting in on one of Morgan’s games. You will not regret the time you spend at his table.
